Sort of impossible to find and if so would cost an arm, leg, kidney plus first child. There has been talk of reproducing but nothing yet. Could try Motomobil in Germany or expressed steel parts in England otherwise it's a waiting game on EBay etc. I bought a new shift boot but cost around $300.00 lot of money for a bit of rubber although want to match it to a near perfect vinyl shroud.

I have brand new exact reproduction (includes the small Ford part numbers) clutch fork boots which include the metal spring clip available ex stock for immediate shipping from Sydney. Reasonably priced too. If you are interested email me at peterlytton@yahoo.com.au for details. I have a gear shift boot in good condition ready to copy however appears not much interest in reproducing them. Peter.

Start by buying one of Peters (excellent) clutch boots, then use generic Mr Gasket shifter boot until you either find a good used one or they get reproduced. The console gaiter covers the rubber boot anyway

With 3D printing becoming more affordable I reckon it wont be long before someone starts printing moulds for all these rare bits and we see the prices start to drop.

The moulds and tooling are only one part of the bigger picture. The process of manufacturing each component, usually by hand, one at a time, for very small volume, very small turn-over specialist interest groups is where most of the work is. And needs to be an accurate copy of the genuine component. And don't forget all the individual packing, the mailing, and answering emails etc which often concludes with the sale of just one small part. Prices would drop substantially for larger volumes of manufacture where automation can take over. However there just isn't the number of Capri's out there to warrant considering this.

So maybe it would could be attacked along the lines of "guys I'm willing to produce X many boots once I have X many orders for them. Price will be $ posted in an Aus Post express bag". Hands up who wants, and take a deposit/ prepay when level is reached. Then you make this qty plus 50% and begin to stock a few, and move onto the next. Anything that helps keep a Capri going is a good thing. I have no idea if this would be feasible, just an outsiders 2c worth. I'd take one.

I don't know about the quantity being small for Capris. In Australia maybe but world wide their were quite a few produced in V6 Essex form. I don't know if you can buy them anywhere worldwide so the complete market would be quite high. Different gearbox and configurations but still one hole for the gearshift boot. I would buy 4 if available of both gearshift boot and gearbox boot.

Problem is that the shifter boot is unique to pre-facelift MK1 V6 capris and pre 72 only in the UK, so you are catering for the smallest section of the capri market with a part you cannot see. you might get a few extras from Mk3 Zephyr Reliant Scimitar and odd ball early Essex powered cars, but I can see a potential market of under 100. Then factor in what Joe average would pay (me personally $50), so you may have a potential return of $5000 for an outlay of about the same or higher. Personally I would find something similar that could be modified to fit the V6 shifter

That brings back the question of how many V6 capris are left. I would certainly think that number is more than 100 in Australia alone.

Agreed, but not all owners want parts. I probably sold 100 sets of my switches world wide over the years, and I was the only one in the world making them - and EVERY capri needs new switches....., I was getting feedback from other owners when I was quoting $30 each exchange like "wow for that price ill just paint mine black". The clutch fork boot was a good move, you need this part for RWC and you can see it, and you know it is an important part, and they have been unobtainable since the 70's. Plus they will fit the later 4 speed box more common in the UK. $80 or so for a new boot is good value - and they are amazing quality and factory correct Id love to see new parts being made and maybe as technology like 3D printing etc develops, the production costs will drop. Or if Mk1 capris skyrocket in price, restorers wont mind paying $100 or so for a rubber boot

I am curious so I just did a quick test. I made a rough cad model of a clutch boot and uploaded it for a quote. To have it printed in plastic to be used to make a mould from is $5. To have it printed in what they call rubber like plastic is $30. When I get time I will make an accurate model and get one of each printed to see how it goes.

Considering the price for the 3D boot is $30 I'm not exactly sure the purpose of the exercise. Don't forget there will be postage costs which will need to be added. Then add the costs of reproducing the wire clip which will need to be ordered in a minimum batch quantity, usually minimum of 100 off. Plus more postage cost. Don't forget it is your bank account which will have to pay for everything up front, even if the product arrives to you and you are disappointed by the quality. Then add for your your time and effort and any risk/s and losses involved. All for a total market volume of no more than 100 off boots total world wide. Also consider this product has already been reproduced, and the market is already pretty much flooded. The end price of the 3D reproduction may be greater than the price I am offering the boots for now. Also consider the risk on the unknown quality, especially long term. Will the 3D materials last before falling apart or going hard?
