Vertak:While these Garden Shears problems are being addressed

[font="宋体"]While these  problems are being addressed to officially one by one, we can take our part by personally solving plastic bag problems in our household. Here are 3 tips we can consider doing:
[font="宋体"]Minimize the use of plastic bags either by first, use paper shopping bags which are biodegradable and eco-friendly; or second, reuse plastic shopping bags by not accepting new ones anymore in the store. We can bring our own bag every time we shop and we can conserve plastics.
[font="宋体"]Recycle plastic bags in many creative ways. [font="宋体"]Turn to biodegradable plastic bags. Biodegradable plastics are widely accepted and available to conserve energy and solve pollution problems. These plastics are often used for food bags, plant bags and shopping bags. Because they can easily decompose, they are not posing risks to the  environment.

I like the way you speak, yuada!.................

If you really want to do good, reject eco friendly bags as well , as they cost energy and resources to actually produce, pack, distribute, transport, etc etc.........whereas the humble STRING BAG our parents had as the only means of a goods-carrying device, or a host of other 2nd hand bags that are already made from whatever, and will probably last years before they wear out, is by far the best and should be the only choice.

While we're on the subject of preserving and saving which does make a difference when even ONE PERSON DOES IT,(imagine hundreds to millions !!!), is having a 20 litre bucket near the bath or shower to catch that water we waste while the pipes empty themselves of COLD while getting the HOT we ordered. I have been doing this for years and then use the water to flush the toilet or put on the garden...... Like washing the daily car on the grass with a pressure cleaner which uses very little water. Like saving the washing machine rinse water for the next load's main wash water........... Like making your downpipes fill up ANY sort of 1,000 to 10,000 tank if you cant afford, or dont need a fancy Water Tank,  or even use several 205 litre drums disguised with imagination............I've never had to use Mains water to top up my 200,000 litre salt-chlorinated pool in 25 years, heated by an analogue heat-exchange matrix on the house roof.

Like what we ENTHUSIASTS are already doing saving Capris, Escorts, Cortinas , Falcons, Holdens , Panel vans, FX-WB's, 60-78 Valiants, and all the other Classics that would have been crushed and already back as Fridges and other white goods, wasting all that energy and labour it took to make them in the first place, out of parts that LASTED God knows how many times more than modern cars, which seem to have fuel economy as their only "raison d'etre", and maybe over-kill luxury..........all of which loses its "gloss" when they drain the bank account with service charges and spares charges and breakdown inconvenience which always requires a tow-truck, as NOTHING can be fixed "roadside", except a puncture maybe.  Also, their "use-by" date seems around a quarter of our old classics !  (Took 2 years to find an affordable used Tranny for a client's 2006 VW Golf about 3 years ago, that orig died after 65k !)

    Cheers....................Bernie

    Well said Bernie!

I am really conscious of recycling and minimising waste.
I am very conscious of what I purchase and if I really need it.
Preserving the older cars is a wonderful way of minimising my impact on our Mother Earth.

Knowledgeable educated friends often look down and call me a "car nut" (with all the associated stigma) because I have owned my car since 1980 and another since 1986.
They on the other hand often trade their cars in every 3 to 5 years for a brand new car of the latest "technology".
One guy laughs at me and says he has never had to buy new tyres, or buy a new battery.
So I wonder who the "car nut" actually is?
    Who's ego is being satisfied?
I wonder about his impact on the environment, the costs in natural resources tied up in his new car, including electricity and fossil fuels to manufacture his new car.
And the costs to the environment to recycle his car when one small component fails and is not economically replaceable thereby rendering the entire car useless.
How much aluminium has it taken to make his fancy engine and his big masculine wheels?
Which country has profited by his choice to buy the new car?
Where has his money gone exactly?
How much is it costing him in depreciation?

Re your comment "to have fuel economy as their only "raison d'etre" ". It is easy to reduce fuel consumption for any car: choose to walk, or ride the treadly, or just cancel a trip every now and then.

All of these new cars look really sexy and must be wonderful to own and drive.
However I dislike the responsibilities needed to keep them.

Exactly where will it all go next?
How many cd players, air bags and widgets does everyone need to get to the shops or to get to work, or take the kids to school?
When will people be really happy with what they already have?

The new car's appear to be growing in size. And there are ever increasing numbers of them.
But there is usually only one person in them.

My old car seems to get stuck in heavy traffic just as easily as the modern cars.
My old car seems to do the speed limit just as easily as the modern cars.
But on a cold winter's morning it would be nice to have a warm heater.
And gosh wouldn't it be nice to have a radio with those fangle new push buttons....
But then no.....I just love BabyBlue just as she is.

Regarding the plastic bags: well just avoid supermarkets and processed food and there will be no need for plastic bags made in china.

    Onya PeterM,
    could not agree more mate.............!

The main down-side to all this is we're made fun of and get called "hoarders", which I admit I am, and proud of it.
When I sell items I've hoarded for very good money, that other were throwing away, I get the final laugh !
I think a lot of these "new this n that" purchases are being promoted by our government for "tax deductions" and status symbol pressure of "keeping up with the Joneses".

Two years ago, I noticed a distant neighbour put a plate-less 1986 Toyota Crown on the nature strip. There it sat for months till the council came along with their yellow warning sticker. I saw "red" as I knew what was about to happen. Knocked on their door and they near begged me to take it away as they were afraid of getting at least a Towing bill from council. None of their friends or family wanted such an old car ! It started first pop and I did a RWC check on it; passed 100/100 ! Drives like a dream and ALL functions inc freezing air con and drink fridge all work like new..........go figure. This was the first DOHC EFI and last to have a Full-Chassis.

I can afford all these modern gizmos, but on principal I refuse: it's only 1 year that I've had a smart phone that my mate says he'll give me every 2 years as he renews his "plan". My old Nokia 5110 did me well for over 10 years, as did the 10 y/o Nokia before that !..........This old Toshiba Satelite Laptop at home is over 10 years old, as is the old Laptop at work........I'm ignoring the messages "Windows 7 is No Longer Supported" till they drop dead or burn out.  Years ago both these Laptops suffered "viruses" that the experts reckoned was "lethal" and not bother repairing, or if I must, was going to cost as much as a new Laptop..........so I took them home and "formatted" the hard drive and re-installed everything I had backed up on a separate "Vault" and BINGO!...............still serving me well.

    Cheers.............Bernie
