Taco bench test with dash out MK1 V6

Does anybody know how to bench test a tachometer ? Not worried about accuracy just want to test if it works or not before fitting to vehicle.

    PLACE TACHO IN SAFE AREA UNDER BONNET AFTER ID OF CORRECT TACHO WIRES
    (WHITE to Bat +ve   .............PINK/WHITE to Coil +ve)
     
    EARTH TACHO HOUSING TO ENGINE with wire and 2 aligator clips
    START ENGINE AND OBSERVE
