Escort 0-100km in 5 seconds or less?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if any one knows or has experience in what spec is required for an escort to do 0-100km in 5 seconds?

I have a mk1 coupe with close ratio type 9, twin cam final drive and about to order an NA YB. I haven't modified an old car before so not sure what to expect

What about 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds?!
2.3 Duratec, definitely not stock. Incredible bit of gear, and amazing it only weighs 561kg.

That's a great article, I never would have thought that much weight could be stripped. I should pay more attention to weight reduction

If 304hp gets you 2.6 sec to 60mph and a 10.2 sec quarter mile. You would need VERY,VERY deep pockets to build 300hp Na yb. I think I've even read that 300 Na is a big ask from the YB, due to it being a turbo head design, maybe a light enough chassis with 250hp would get ya close to the 5 second mark your after. What spec is your engine gunna be?

It's going to have a 2.1 bottom end, forged pistons and rods, cosworth crank. Porting for NA, not sure of cams and probably 48 or 50 side drafts. I think the gearbox and English axel and only rated to 250hp max so I didn't want to get quite that close to the limit

Sounds awesome, if its a standard English axle your look'n at about 150hp max, type 9 might be ok if you treat it nicely make sure you send in loads of photos, I'm by no means an expert but you wont believe the knowledge you can gain on this forum

Tell me about it, i love this forum. I've had the car about 2 years and I wish I took more progress shots. I've had to replace both floor pans and my real hold up at the moment is the front panel replacement and heater bubble/bulkhead repairs.
