My Mk1 2door slow project!
well Im kind of new to this forum but thought i would start my own build up thread! It all started when my much loved first car, a 2lt mk2 4door got smashed in the back by a truck[8~2][8~2]. I had heard of a mk1 2door that a mate of a mate wanted to get rid off and after a call was on my way to save my new heap from the dump for the grand some of $0. Once i got the beast home it was time to start swapping parts over from my mk2. The mk1 had previousley had a 2lt in it so the swap wasn't to bad but had been stripped of engine/box/looms etc. so after a lot of work and searching wreckers for parts i got her on the road. Drove it round how it was (very rough and dodgey) for a while untill good oll dad got sick of me driving an unroadworthy heap and gave me some money to buy a twin cam corrolla! So the scort went in the shed and got abit of a tidy up to the body and a fresh coat of paint. Also got my mk2 struts/diff and brakes. Went back on the road for abit and thought of selling it but decided to keep her and pull it to bits again. Here is some fairley recent pics. Unfortunately dont have any of it when i first got her! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/IMG_0243.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/IMG_0248.jpg Hope that works! will post some more details when i get some more time!

Cheers mate it looks ok in picks but is bit rough in spots. Have done fare bit more since i took those pick. -Removed all front suspension/cross member etc -Painted Engine bay -Rebuilt and painted front end. new bushes, Monroe gas inserts -K-mac adjustable strut tops -King springs (KLLF-13) -Rebuilding and working 2lt. -EFI of GSXR750 (waiting on custom manifold)
Should be good fun when its going. Will probably leave the body as it is for the moment so i can enjoy it and not worry about scratching it.

Ok got a couple more picks!
Crapy interior with MR2 seats http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/IMG_0251.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/IMG_0250.jpg
Engine Bay primed for paint http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/IMG_0244.jpg
Engine bay after paint http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/Image041.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/brenton03/Image040.jpg
After ive built the engine and have it all going i want to tidy up the interior. Was thinking bout getting some cheapo race seats off e-bay. Does anyone know what they are like? Anyone have any periodic comfy seats that hold you in good? not to sure what direction i want to go with the inside yet. Modern or period?? Let us know what you think!

What master cylinder are you using for your brake set up? And is it a easy thing to do. As I can't find a pedal box for my car.

Car looks fantastic mate. Im in love with white mk1s. I agree about the seats, a pair of those cobra vintage buckets would look a treat in your car. around 300ea from memory.
What paint did you use for the engine bay, 2k or acrylic? Looks nice and glossy.
Keep the updates coming
cheers, nigel

Just using a stardard mk2 master. Not sure how it will go yet unboosted (ive heard its fine) but if im not happy ill fit a remote booster for the front. Was real easy to set up, master just bolted srait in where the old brackets for the booster were mounted. Then cut the rod off the pedal rod, drilled out a hole on the pedal bracket bit, then turned the rod around and fitted the threaded end to the pedal end so it was adjustabe, then cut it to lengh. Dont know if that makes sense but can take some picks if you like?

Cheers mate I think it looks quite good when on the road but you can easaly pic the body to pieces when up close. Its a fun car to drive though and i think thats the main thing! I agree though you can't go to wrong with white, and yeah its 2pack, just a off white colour prity close to old english white! Prity keen to bubble arch it in the future, think it will be easyer to cut into one i know is not mint! Was a bad choice of seats but they were cheap and was having trouble finding seat narrow enough to fit.

Only problem with those cobra seats is they dont fold forward, so makes getting in the rear of a 2 door very very hard unless you can make the whole set fold like tobmstone seats from the older cars, but i think they will hit the windscreen to easy

Thats true but there is not much room in the back for much more than a leggles midget and would like to get rid off the back seat in favour of a cage some day.

Had some progress but dont have a camera to take any pics. Ive been working on the motor bike throttle boddies and got them all bolted up and spaced out on the manifold. Also got my head back from the engine shop and started the porting on that! I think i might order my Mega-squirt tonight to. coming along still though which is good.

Hey,
Any updates on the throttle bodies? What are they like? Have you run the engine with them yet?
Cheers

I would like some pics of this set up please. I am about to install a 1600 that has been tricked out to 1720 with twin sidies but of course the booster is going to be in the way. This mod you have made looks the best and quickest way to go Cheers

haven't made a lot of progress with the old girl unfortunately.[V] I got the manifold made and have the throttle bodies spaced out and mounted to that and started on my megasquirt kit. Im working over in the goldfields in WA and the cars in sa so dont have alot of time to work on her. will hopefully get stuck back into it soon. Will post picks of what's done when i get back next week.
