Trim Code B2

Hi guys - Here's a curly one.  The compliance plate for my 1972 V6 reads "B2" for the trim code.

I have never seen any Capri trim code chart make reference to "B2" although the XA has a "B2" trim code which relates to black seats with the "2" indicating it has cloth inserts.

I provided the VIN to Ford and they confirmed every code except for the trim which they listed as "B" (Black). The car has the original seats which are just black vinyl (no cloth).

So... Has anyone seen an Australian built Capri with cloth inserts or was my compliance plate just stamped wrong?

Cheers, Don.

One of my capris (March 1971) is also a B2 trim, but I got it as a project without the interior. I do have a set of NOS front seat skins for it though, which have the black cloth inserts.

I can't find my Ford parts manual, but I'll check it tonight to see if it mentions seat colour codes with inserts.

    Cheers

There have been many instances of wrong stamping on the compliance plates. On the other hand, are you really sure that there were no cloth inserts on your car to begin with?
My car has the opposite problem, ie only a "b" on the plate but i know for sure that the car had cloth inserts from new (provinance).
Looking carefully at the 72 capri brochure the standard features for XL and GT included "basket weave" inserts and under optional extras is the "cloth inserts". Although the brochure doesnt us these terms and as a result seems ambiguous it can be understood by including the illustrations.

    Mine is N2
Saddle with insert (hawaiian savannah is this insert material name I think).
Ford verification letters can't confirm colour of insert materials.
Here is a quick pic (note this is unrestored original trim and carpet).

I'm happy that mine has the original seats as it was a one owner when I found it about 3 years ago.  I have the  original black vinyl front high backs due for a re-trim and have since sourced a UK contoured rear seat with the centre arm rest. The original rear seat was still fitted and is just vinyl (no cloth).

I want to have them trimmed to match front & back. I was going to put basket weave into the rear seat so I guess I have options now...

Here you go. JR is correct that it's a hessian style fabric, probably because it would be hard wearing.

Thanks Jamie - I saw that one and saved the image of the front seats. When you have a chance could you please advise the measurement between each of the cloth seams/rolls?

Pulled them out today while reorganising. Distance between stitches is 35mm.
