EBay and Capri parts

Hi All, rather than divert my other thread asking questions, I thought I'd better start a new one regarding parts available on ebay. Most will probably know the items available and who from in AUS, as they have been listed regularly.

I've bought a few parts on ebay recently, mostly repro, most have been ok, others not so much that I were a waste of time.
So in the interest for others, anyone have some feedback they want to share on quality?.

My recent upgrades from ebay:
- woodgrain Centre console trim: ok. color and finish looked pretty original.
- "capri"chrome door interior locks same seller as above (set of 4? should have told me something)-NG as thread size is wrong.wont fit capri connecting levers for the lock
-brake /clutch rubbers -ok
-bootlid and hockeystick joiner trim- ok
-heater decal-ok
I'm interested in getting the dash switches redone by the guy in Poland? but it I think the decal available from the same seller may be safer incase my whole set of switches get lost
I need an interior door switch cover but would need to sell a kidney or lung at current price listed on ebay.

Just a few years ago it was possible to buy heaps of genuine parts for cheap. Alas those days seem to have gone.
What burns me is the parts that are touted as original only to prove to be crappy copies.
I bought a pair of courtesy light switches in the genuine style for somewhere around $70  just to be "correct" but they have already broken so now it will be a $5 set like i should have bought in the first place. (serenity now)

Dash Facias are ok if you just want a tidy dash.. however they are far from original regarding wood pattern/colour and plastic chrome edging.

I do switches on exchange, very nice they are too
I do exchange vents as well, top stuff
I do the front parcel shelf fascia great repo
I do new moulded carpet with correct heel mat and bound edges.

The items I have bought are
Heater decal from Poland - superb copy
Door knobs (pair) team Blitz ebay - great, but expensive
Mini moulded door seals look good, but pricey
Chrome boot mouldings look great (joiner not the best) - motomobil, postage very slow and way overpriced

Ebay Aus only lists overseas items where the seller lists overseas postage.  If you log into ebay UK you get all the local listings, then just ask them if they will post to aus.  No one has ever said no.  I have collected heaps of stuff cheaper than I could have bought here.  The exchange rate hurts a lot now but still worth it sometimes.  I also like Burtons, Motomobil, Tickover and expressed steel.  I got my boot trims from motomobil delivered cheaper than the ones on ebay before the price drop, one was bent I sent them a photo and they replaced no hassles.  Also got nice exchange strut tops from them.  Locally I am happy with the repro dash facia and console panels and the fibreglass parcel tray from gumtree is nice.  Be careful with the switches and heater decals as sometimes they are for LHD.

I thought the woodgrain console insert looked pretty convincing, but would not be able to comment on how accurate it was to the dash color, as mine was incorrectly cleaned many moons ago, taking the 'woodgrain' along with it.

Agree with the ebay UK, I have used Burton for a pimped up alloy thermostat housing.
Looking at Ebay UK,sometime I wish I had a MK2 escort, based on everything you can buy.

GTV6Capri i'd be interested in knowing cost to get a set done, please PM when you get a chance.

A few years ago I remember seeing reinforcement pieces over the bonnet slam panel catch cutout, but have not been able to find the again.

Did someone here end up getting the near new dash fascia (non GT) that sold last week?

    • "capri"chrome door interior locks  - were wrong, returned for full refund incl postage
    • Burtons, all good until something went wrong last year (wrong clutch thrust bearing) - nil response to my reported problem.
    • TeamBlitz - one and only transaction was hassle free, exchange rate might be more favourable than UK option these days
    • eBay UK - always ask, sometimes I get a 'no' from a private seller. Businesses usually 'yes'. You're the one paying the freight (which seems to have gone up in raw GBP lately)
    • Door courtesy light switches from UK ($70?) - look right domed-style but made from firm-ish plastic, not soft rubber.  Don't squash easily like the original rubber and mine popped out when fitted.
    • AUS sourced repro dash fascia and console bits - look good but with silver edge (not chrome, but not really noticeable, and I'm not going for concourse spec).  Yet to be fitted.
    • !!! Switches are 'handed' with the decal.  US switches use the English word rather than decal, and are LH of course.  Escort switches look similar but the giveaway is the decal is set up for vertical mounting.  Some 'claimed' Escort switches are also slightly larger in the nacelle size (nice word, that one !!)
    • ....and I don't see NOS dash switches or window winders anymore for 5GBP

Are these the ones that are marketed as 'new old stock'?  Sounds like they are reproductions.
