Tunnel problems

G`day guys
Something thats been bugging me for a while now that i havent been able to find a decent answer for it.
When i have to remove the gearbox i have to take it out still attached to the engine, i cant split the two while they are in situ. I have pulled gearboxes and transmissions from escorts and this is the first of many i have pulled that i cant separate and remove leaving  the engine on the mounts. I hope this hasnt been asked before, i cant remember asking and couldnt fint a post in here about it.
Cheers all

It's probably the first one that hasn't had the tunnel massaged.
The easiest way is to undo the engine crossmember and lower on some longer bolts, don't forget to disconnect the steering coupling/uni.

Yes, they are a pain.  My trans tunnel is standard and my brother told me that I would have to drop an engine mount and tilt the engine to allow the bell housing to be seperated from the engine due to lack of clearance. Pity the designers of the T9 didn't design it to be bolted to the bell housing from the outside, like a top loader box. I have to replace the front input shaft seal on my box and that's a job I'm not looking forward to. Maybe it might be better to do the drop cross member method.

Yep i got plans to fab something similar. One more question, the reverse light switch had been crushed by contact with the side of the tunnel, i cant believe ford would let that fault get through the design stage, is it normal or weird?

Nukem, which tunnel is that? Looks like the one you can get from motorsport-tools. Wondering if it will fit over my honda s2k box....

My reverse light switch doesn't work either, will have to check it out when the box comes out . Switch is in a really bad place when the box is in a standard tunnel.

Hey Nukem, any chance of a few measurements on that tunnel piece? I`m a fabricator by trade so will be making my own and measurements would save me some time and stuffing around

Will take a few photos with measurements, if you are in Sydney I could drop in with it for you to take all the measurements you want. Let me know.
