1980 MK2 RS2000

hey everyone,

new to the site as i recently acquired a genuine 1980 MK2 RS2000 in monza red. The car came fully stripped and mounted on a rotisserie so am enjoying the fun of planning out my build from scratch. The car is originally from adelaide and is now residing in my shed on the sunny coast. The enthusiast who brought it to QLD and ultimately ran out of time for the rebuild had plans to install an SR20 engine and do a four link rear suspension conversion. I dont think I will go down this path although the four link conversion is tempting as I have the full kit which came with the car from GRP4 in the UK. The shell is extremely solid and showing no signs of rust. Obviously will be confirmed once the shell is stripped of paint. The only downside to my purchase was the original pinto engine has already been on-sold as has the original rims/tyres. Does make deciding on an engine more fun as I am not tied down to having something already on-site. The negative being I wont be able to re-build it as a full matching numbers RS.

Have been enjoying reading about other peoples builds and look forward to adding to this post once there is some action...
couple of photos attached. some of the car from the previous owner in full running mode and then a couple of as is.

G'day Lee. Great looking car you have picked up there. Good luck with your engine search.

I am also trying to work out an engine for my Mk2 2 Door and am thinking about a Honda F20C from the S2000 with their 6 speed transmission. Trying to find as much info on the net as possible.

    Cheers, Todd.

the F20C definitely warrants some serious thoughts. I also have been considering the toyota 4AGE.
Do need to do some serious looking at the legal implications of any engine choice. want full road rego so that needs to be factored in. At the moment leaning towards a zetec just for the ford connection and how popular that transplant seems to be at the moment. Look forward to hearing which way you go Todd.

    Hi Lee,
Good to see another RS coming back to life, looks like you have got a pretty good shell to start with. A Ford engine in an RS or any other Escort is the go- plenty of gear available and advice on the forum for putting a late model lump into one of Fords best . Looking forward to seeing pics as it progresses.
