Door mirrors
Hi all. I'm assuming the Mk2 Escort external mirrors are the same as XB Falcons etc except for the size and shape of the spacer? Can someone take a decent pic of the correct one and does anyone have a spare pair of spacers?

Are the spacers different? It's been a long time since I owned my XA but the escort ones didn't look any different to the ones I had fitted on the Falcon. One definitive way would be to check the part no's, if someone has the fabled parts cd previously mentioned on this forum and then maybe checking against rare spares no's. I had always assumed they were inter-changeable. Len

Thanks Len. I have 1 mirror handy with a spacer but it wasn't off my car. When offered up to the door it looks to sit right to my eye as the outer end of the mirror needs to come up. My original mirrors are stored somewhere but I can't recall if the spacers were correct also.

When I added a passenger side mirror to my MK2 from one off an XA, I found that Escort spacer meant the original bolts were too short. These needed changing to longer Escort ones as well.

The Aussie Mk2 Escort external door mirrors were sourced from the XA to XC Falcon's. There are at least three different spacers available. One version only suits the Mk2 Escort. The correct version when correctly fitted will result in the top flat part of the mirror housing to sit level. If the incorrect spacer is fitted the mirror housing will be tilted. And yes there are left hand and right hand versions to suit the left hand mirror and the right hand mirror. I can't recollect part numbers on the spacers.

Thanks Pete. Maybe you need to start reproducing these also 😉

This car from carsales has the wrong spacers (that's if it uploaded if you have a look it's a 1969 GT listing). The mirrors are to high and lopsided. The Capri spacers have been described on here in the past as the thin ones if you see the various types it becomes obvious. I think I have one and have tried to buy the other but have never had the money.

I had the same problem with the bolts being too short on the XA mirror. On the up side it didn't have the horrid casting marks that my Escort one did, I had to smooth the other one to match but was much happier in the end.... Cheers Drew....

This does not solve your problem but knowing the correct part number may help. 54,62 = sedans 78 = panel van Phil
