One litre Ecoboost.....

Right. Here's the question, what would the pros and cons of swapping out a 2ltr pinto for the new ecoboost 1ltr turbo.
On paper I'm seeing similar power outputs with a massive loss of weight over the front wheels, also the smaller engine even with the turbo multiplication would mean a smaller capacity class. BTW not talking about on road use here mainly hillclimbing.
So what are your thoughts in the inter web world with this idea and how difficult would the conversion be??
Also the tuning possibility, is the little 1ltr close to the end in terms of gains that could be made?

Sounds like an interesting project, less weight over the front wheels would increase understeer. I dont know the engine your talking about but i will be watching in interest.

It's the ford engine fitted to lots of new things like the Fiesta. Other alternative is 1.6ltr Ecoboost or even the 2ltr turbo out of the Falcon but that would change my class to over 2ltr due to turbo multiplication factor. As for the under steer adjustable suspension will dial that out. What I'm really interested in is how feasible the whole idea is?

The one litre engine is pretty small; the block is only the size of an A4 sheet of paper, so I dare say it would fit easily enough, but there would be limited scope for mods.  The exhaust manifold is integrated to the head, and the standard flywheel would probably have to be retained as it is specially weighted to counterbalance the vibrations of a 3 cyl engine.  In standard form it makes more power and torque than a stock 2 litre Pinto, so it would make a fine road engine.  There is now a 1.5 litre 4 cyl Ecoboost too, which at 135kW stock is a tad less than double a stock Pinto.  Probably the easiest would be the 2.3 out of the Mustang or Falcon, as at least it's configured for rear drive already.

    G'day All,
I was given a link to this site by an old friend, and low and behold there were photos of my old RS 2000 called risky.
some great memories came flooding back. I no longer have the edition of street machine that it was published in, so it was good to be able to see my baby once again. Thank you for helping me remember, it seems a life time ago.
I'll drop in now and then to check out these awesome classics, it's great to see them live on in all their glory.

So what happened to the car after that?  Did it get turbocharged like the Street Machine article said it would?  Is it still around in some form or another?

    Hi,
It sure did get turbo charged, a ray jay with 28 pound boost. I had it doing sub 11's at Oran park, it was a real weapon. The problem was it had a reliability factor of zero. My mechanic was Garry Wilmington who used to race touring cars, so eventually I stripped it down to put a flip front on it, some fibreglass rear quarters and fibreglass boot, Garry knew Collin Bond and I spent big dollars buying a cosworth race engine complete with twin injection and turbo , the lot. I used a fibreglasser in Leppington to make the moulds for the project and Fast Fours and Rotaries came and took all the ground up photos, I went overseas for a year and I got stabbed in the back, I got home to find a car with my body moulds in fast fours, I found that the fibreglasser used my moulds and made a car up for his son, and they used it in the mag, To add insult to injury the stripped down photos were of my car, the glassier said the mag put pressure on him, the mag said I owed the fibreglasser money so he put pressure on them to publish his sons car, both were lying sacks of SH*T. After that I lost heart and sold off the bits and pieces for next to nothing. I ended up buying an EA Falcon that Wilmington was preparing for races, took the cage out, put in a 351 cleveland. It made it on the cover of Street Heat but, before it hit the shelves, I had it striped and repainted Ferrari yellow and a GM671 blower fitted, to this day I still own it that way. As far away from the pain of betrayal as I could get, yet I still miss RISKY.
