Gaz coilover advice please

G'day all,
Looking at a pair of gaz gold coilovers for the front of my mk2 escort and have a couple of questions....
What rate spring is best suited for general road use and the odd hillclimb? I don't mind them a bit stiffer than standard but not teeth rattling....
What length spring should I use for about a 2" drop from standard height?
What's the best option for the strut top? looking at the eccentric type from burtons, am I going in the right direction with these?
Cheers Drew......

    Hi Drew,
Have you got large or small strut top holes. I had small ones and couldn't get rubber mounted tops to fit, used standard ones as the alloy eccentric ones are very harsh and transmit all road vibration. MY brother bought my coilover conversions from Burtons with an order he was getting with engine parts  so can't help with spring rates though I might be able to get spring height. Mine are fairly stiff for road use.

    Hey Mate,

I have these in my 4 door.  I spoke to GAZ and they sent me the 275lb springs and as an occasional road car they are fine.  I have done a number of long cruises and love the way it rides and handles. They also supplied the eccentric strut tops (they do small and large hole) as a package.  The spring length is 10" and are 2.5" as opposed to the normal 2.25" spring widths.

I personally feel that people's opinion of the rose jointed strut tops being too harsh for roads unfounded.  They probably do transmit more vibration and road noise but they make such a difference that these perceived negatives are well worth it to get a car with sharper turning, less effort involved and better feel.

Feel free to have a chat if you want more info.

    Cheers

    Matt
