Drivers Door Inside Handle Bracket

Hello All,

Some years ago (about 25) someone decided it would be a good idea to through a brick through my drivers side window.

In my haste (and not knowing what I was doing!!) I levered and broke the diecast / muck-metal bracket that holds the surround against the door trim.

Would anyone have one just laying around (as you do) that they would or wouldn't mind to part with?

Unless there is a good and strong way to repair the broken one?

With Many Thanks,

Regards,

Darian.

Drivers side is hard to find, and they are left right specific.  one will come up (try USA suppliers as our drivers side is their passenger side.

On my previous Capri I just used a piece of Aluminium about 1mm thick and screwed it to the door using the existing screws of the bracket (the 3 that are still there) - so the new piece of aluminium is now sandwiched between the door and the bracket) once the aluminium is in place I then fitted the cover piece and drilled a hole - then simply put the screw in.

This is a very common problem - what ever you do dont try and glue it in place - ends up looking rubbish

I know of one and have asked if he wants to part with it.  Will let you know when I hear back.

Many Thanks Gentlemen for the replies.

Hadn't thought of the US / Left Hand Drive alternative - a good point and option.

Many Thanks. Hopefully you have some luck convincing the person that I need it more than he does!! Fingers crossed.

If all else fails I will have to look at fabricating  / inserting some other material as per your suggestion.

It annoys the "b...jeepers" out of me. Firstly that someone would throw the brick, but more-so that I broke the "#*!#" bracket.

Thanks again. Appreciate all the help and advice.

    Cheers,

    Darian.

If you have all the pieces these can be successfully welded using a tig and high silicon content rod.
I did this many years ago and mine is still fine.
