MK1 Escort won't start after Type 9 install?

As the title states. There was no battery, gbox or starter motor in the car when I welded the floor pans & tunnel. Ignition comes on as per normal but I just get a clicking sound from the starter relay and under the distributor cap ( car has piranha electronic ignition with separate ignition module) when the ignition is in the cranking position

Battery is charged.
I swapped the relay for a spare I had but no change.
Next step, remove the starter motor & test??? It was only reco'd about 18 months ago

Thanks

It's a Kent motor you've got ? Before you go any further I would put a multimeter or test globe on the power line at the starter and make sure that you've got power coming through. Also make sure your battery and starter connections are clean and tight, if not you may be getting enough current to activate the relays but not enough to do anything else. Also is it even trying to turn over or totally dead?

did the old gearbox earth to the body and  the new gearbox not?
first of all before you start pulling things off, try connecting a wire from somewhere either on the g/box or engine to the body and see if that solves the problem, it could just be a bad earth.

Kents love earth.  Make sure you have a lead from the neg terminal to the block, and terminal to the inner guard, plus a lead from the block to the firewall at the back of the motor

Capri The car I always promised myself

Thanks guys. It's a 2.0L . the battery and + - connections are all good. Car was starting fine before box swap. I'll test starter motor today, solenoid might have packed up.

    +1 (1)
Pinto starter has 2 spade terminals( one is to energize solenoid, the other ballast bypass). Make sure this is connected correctly.

    Cheers

Hello. I found the problem. The cable from ignition to relay had tucked itself away behind the loom in my engine bay lol.

The car has been test run,, on the freeway and I must say, 5 gears is awesome.

Test n Tune on tonight at willowbank, time to get into the 15's I think

    Thanks for all the replies

    Cheers Peter.
It was a nice drive out there (2700rpm @ 100km/h) but on the track the 38 weber ran dry again
Not sure if I should go bigger needle valve or install fuel pump & reg.
