Wheel specs to fit MK2

Hi all,

I've currently got some 13" Volante wheels on my MK2 4 door, but was thinking about the possibility of swapping these out every now and then to something more modern.

Does anyone know what the normal specs (PCD, offset) are for the stock wheels? Also, has anyone experimented with wheels off some modern Ford models?

Cheers,
Drew

For example, I reckon these would look awesome in a 15"

Seem to be the same 4 x 108mm stud pattern, just unsure of the offset.

They are definitely the right stud pattern- I used the rear discs / calipers off a focus to do the rear disc conversion on my Mk2- straight bolt up , no machining or redrilling. Tried a standard steel rim on the car to check it but being front wheel drive inside dish too deep for standard front struts- though they may have fitted once I had done the coilover conversion. Len

According to my measurements, Volante wheels for the Escort (the Cortina ones may differ - they certainly look different) are 13" x 5.5" ET25.

If you post the offset of the wheel in question here, I'll run the numbers for you and let you know how they'll fit relative to the Volantes.  Being FWD wheels, I doubt the offsets are suitable though.  For reference, you want an offset of about ET12 for a 7" wheel.

    Hi Flighter,

What do you think about an offset of 40P? Looking at the ROH Azzuro, which are a 4 x 108, but the offset is for a Fiesta...

    Cheers.

Wont work without spacers. 40p is a front wheel drive backset wheel. And will hit the strut/guard etc.
As above you need a backset of around 10-20p for a 6-7" wheel.

Take a look at the pic below to understand a bit more on backset.

evobda2 is right.  Even Volantes with 205 tyres rub the struts on full lock (the tyres do that is, although not much).

    Hey guys,

I've been a bit slack on the offset of the wheels; long story made short, I'm in one state and the car is in another. We've not seen each other for over 2 years (*sniff*).

Buuuut, the car is at a panel beaters at the moment, so..... If there is the possibility that the ROH Azzuro wheels could work, I'd be keen to explore that by way of getting the arches rolled or using spacers as evobda2 mentioned....

Spacers will do the job, but they're illegal on the road

Spacers aren't the most ideal solution, but sometimes there isn't much you can do. As above they are illegal..
I can see why they aren't really legal.. some of the universal ones are just rubbish. They move all over the place, have no decent wheel entering ring and are just dangerous as its near impossible to get the wheel and spacers 100% centered all of the time. Any slight looseness in the nuts will just throw everything out.

    Saying that..
I do use quality spacers on my modern BMW using wider 8.5j wheels all round. I needed to as under hard cornering would only just rub the strut.. so used 5mm on the front, but due to widening the front and having a wider wheel than normal i then needed 10mm on the rear to get a more suitable track both front and back. I wouldn't go any more than 10mm.. and make sure you upgrade the studs to longer ones too. You want as much torque as you can get with the additional spacer between the wheel and the hub.

Make sure you get the spacers which are drilled exactly for your stud pattern, and NOT the universal ones. You will also need to make sure you get the correct centering ring. Some spacers include this.. others don't. This means you may need one for the hub to spacer, and then the spacer has the centering ring for the wheel. So can be a little tricky getting it exact.

Ideally they should look like this..

    Hi guys,

instead of starting a new thread, thought i would post my question in here. I am looking for some rims for some track tyres and came across these for sale. they are 13x6, unsure of the brand of rim, and the only other information the seller has given me so far is that from the inside of the rim it is 104mm (from his email "Offset is 104mm on inside of rim")

Would anyone be able to assist with identifying what the offset of this would be? And if this would be alright to fit under standard mk2 arches without fouling any part of the front suspension.

    Thanks

13 x 6 with a 104mm backspace is +15 offset.  It could be that they are actually +13, which is a fairly standard size for a 6" wheel in Au.

Thanks Flighter, I got a photo of the back of the rim today, and the only markings on the back is 5B from the looks. Is this more useful information?
