Mk1 Ignition Lock Drama

I was hoping my first post would be showing the metalwork getting done but I've run into problems with the ignition lock and need help identifying what replacement parts will and won't work.
 
After 3 days and two locksmiths, I've given up trying to get a key cut for it, even after they drilled the side of the case. Apparently I have the world's only un-pickable lock and it's from the 70's!
 
Will a mk2 ignition swap straight over? Part # 75AB 3675 A3B
I know the connection plugs are different but can I use my old mk1 ignition contact switch with the mk2 lock assembly? Do the screws align at the bottom with the contact switch?
 
Anyone know someone selling a mk1 ignition? I'm still amazed that a lock from an old escort is this hard to sort out.

I had the same problem.  Tried in vain to get a replacement MK1 ignition barrel and refused to pay the $200 plus for a NOS one.
 
I ended up with a MK2 version. MK1 Loom/backing will unscrew and fit the mk2 barrel.
 
I just need to mod the mount to fit it to the column.

I had a key cut for my Mk1 as when I bought the car it had no keys at all. gave the ignition to a locksmith and it came back with a key, don't know why it'd be that hard?

If anyone was wondering who ponied up for that NOS Mk1 ignition you're looking at him. Talking with Tony it seemed to make sense rather than pay what people wanted for a Mk2 then mucking around with the rear bracket. Knowing my luck someone will take a screwdriver to it a week after I put it in.
 
Who cut your key Chris? I've got the old ignition sitting next to me at the moment, if I can get a key cut it would make a good spare or help recoup some of the cost of the new one.

not sure to be honest, gave it my partners old man ( he's a panel beater ) and he had one of his mates cut it. seeing him tomorrow so will ask.
