Help Needed Volvo Brakes

Hi Fellas

Just putting Volvo Girling calipers with V6 Capri vented disks on my 79 RS2000.

How did other people get over the clearance problems with the steering arms of the back of the disks??

Is there any after market steering arms that don't foul?

Have searched through old posts but can't find an answer.

Thanks in advance.

Graeme

There shouldnt be a problem with the Capri rotors.  They sit close to the tie rod end but shouldnt touch. To fit the BMW rotors some machining is required to allow clearance but i have never heard of this with the Capri venteds

I used to run Capri discs with only a mm or so clearance to spare, but when I put new tie rod ends on I lost it and they touched (brand differences perhaps).  I swapped back to solid discs as I don't need the extra beef of the vented ones anyway, but it shows that in some circumstances they can touch.  The solution is Capri struts etc., but I gather they aren't easy or cheap to get downunder.

Thanks for the help.  I ended up purchasing some after market tie rod ends and these cleared (just).

Capri struts are definitely the way to go as you can add spacers

I used Capri struts with Volvo 4 spots, but used Ford Laser TX3 turbo disc's. These have plenty of clearance.
There is a link somewhere on here that shows you how to do this. I had no problems at all with this set up on my old Mk1 Escort rally car.

    Cheers

Flighter, I checked with my mechanic, the new tie rod ends were aftermarket from Bursons Auto Parts.

Thanks Graeme, maybe I'll buy a set in case I decide to put the vented discs back on.
