Anti squeal shims

Hi all,
     Im putting in new brembo standard rotors and bendix GCT pads on my MK2 2 litre escort. What is the general consensus when it comes to using the factory anti squeal shims?   I have in the past used the PBR anti squeal compound that is similar in look and smell to contact adhesive, with good results but haven't tried it on an escort . Im thinking of leaving out the shims. Also interesting is that the shims don't cover the full surface of the piston so uneven pressure on the pad would be occurring Id think.

    I usually get rid of the shims and just give  them a decent smear of copper grease. no squeaks or squeals

    Always use shims, especially if you have them already. Anti squeal compounds are a good preventative measure that I always use too, these come in different varieties such as spray on, smear on  but are all curing in nature. Certainly don't recommend any type of grease on and around the pad at all, pads get very hot and greases have every chance of contaminating the pad/rotor surfaces. Other than not having the shims there is absolutely no reason not to use them.

    +1 for the shims and also the spring clips.  Cars with opposed piston calipers were common to come into the workshop with squealing brakes.  More often than not the shims and springs had been left out by some lazy ar5e in the past.  Volvo's were terrible for it and Escorts were pretty bad too

    Make it go FASTER!
