1600 Dizzy dramas

Hi guys my 1.6l crossy has a bit of play in the shaft and this has led my father to think that this is the cause to the miss my engine has. Now I was going to convert it to electronic ignition at some point and this may be the right time to do so. I guess this thread is asking on advice on how to best convert my mk2 from the old points system to a new electronic system. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem with the distributor in my van. I bought a new distributor from a guy in Melbourne. Haven't fitted it yet so I can't really give you any feedback about how it works. Cheap though, new and no more points.

I've picked the dizzy Im going to get and it is the same as to what you are going to get Escortpower. Now my next drama is that the previous owner has done some shotty wiring and I want to re do the wiring to the coil. I am going to get a new coil so should I get the resistor/ballast type. I am going to run power from a new ignition switch able source straight to the coil, that is why I think I need to go the resistor/ballast type coil, is 1.5ohms the correct resistance level? Is the factory ballast resistor incorporated in the wiring to the positive side of the coil?Is my system the neg earth version? Does this matter? I am also going the electrical ignition route so is there any other things I will need to get it going correctly. Really just need to know will these parts work and is there anything else I need.

I used an XR-700 for years and was pleased with it.  The opto-coupler (which sits in the distributor) got flakey though, which evidently is the most common way for them to fail.  Although they are available as a spare part, it's ignition upgrade time for me!
