Wiper wiring
So I have a motor but i cant be exactly sure which model it is from. Seems to be a two speed jobby with a park circuit but I couldn't confirm what year Capri it is from. I think it might have 1970 marked on the unit. I have been rewiring my car but am a little stumped as to the correct method to wire up this windscreen motor. Help please :P Wiring is as follows: Motor: Green: to accessory on ignition switch via a fuse. Ties to green that exits from park circuit. Black: Attaches to body of motor then to earth. Blue (lo): energised on the other side of the green main power. Assuming attaches to combination switch for wipers which then earths (confirm?) Brown (hi): energised on the other side of the green main power. Assuming attaches to combination switch for wipers which then earths (confirm?) Black with green trace: Exits park switch module (thingy). Needs to be earthed to work but if I leave it earth it seems to get hot ... fast.. then smokes.... so like .. wtf. Where is it meant to attach to? I have looked at some different diagrams but they just don't seem to correspond to what I have. Also I am a little scared of this whole getting hot, melting fire scenario. Any help much appreciated.

Just had a look at the wiring diagram in my factory workshop manual. It gives specifics for every switch etc except the wiper switch! Shows its there but that's it, same with the wiper motor. I'll have a look at my capri this weekend and see if I can get anything more useful for you

Wattsy, You have a 2speed unit. The 2 greens with male plug are to power via a fuse. Black with female plug goes to earth. Blue/green, black/green, brown green, and black all go to the 2 speed wiper switch. Hope this will sort your wiring. If you need further help ask. John

Thanks, John. Is the black/green for the park supposed to be on the opposite side of the switch to the blue and brown? eg blue/green --> switch --> black/green brown/green --> switch --> black/green

beat me to it, mine is the same. Double green goes to ign power. There is a connector with 3 sockets in the harness.

Thanks for the replies. I have no factory wiring at all and am adapting the wiring to suit a different column which is why I have been battling a bit.

I didnt realise you have a different switch. The switch just opens and closes circuits, have you got your head around how the proper switch connects the wires for each switch position and which wire is for which circuit (high, low, park)?

I got a bit side tracked but for those that havent pulled apart a capri switch yet here a is pic showing how they work. The switch rotates on its pivot and drags the brass contact plate across. So for the 2 speed wiper each pair is a circuit, ie left pair, middle pair, right pair.
