Correct Wheel Nuts
Hello peoples, I have 16 x 7 Performance Superlite wheels on my MK 1 and I have used the wheel nuts provided with them. I have a problem however, it would seem that the nuts provided are metric. As the MK 1 is imperial what are the correct wheel nut specs I need to be looking for to obtain the correct items thanks.

The next question is whether you need extended length studs to fit them, as I believe Superlite do. If so, you could save a few $$$ by just buying longer metric nuts instead of both imperial studs and nuts.

IIRC capri nuts are 7/16, if the holes are tapered, use the Acorn looking nuts not the straight sided tapered nuts

7/16 nuts it will be un less i need longer studs

OK, so one needs to use 7/16 tapered wheel nuts. But the hole in the rim only suites a thin wall 19 mm socket, a standard wheel nut cross bar will not fit. so one must use a 7/16 tapered wheel nut with a 19 mm long socket head and a breaker bar freaking heck........... So I have ordered 7/16 wheel nuts with a 19 mm socket head. Bloody old cars and new rims, but they do look so nice on the car.

Go for the chrome extended nuts as available at supercheap. These stick out far enough to fit the standard socket.

Sorry, not meaning to hijack this thread but I am about to do the same thing sort of. I will be fitting Capri Laser 4 spoke wheels to my Mk1 Capri. These use a tapered nut but the Laser Capri nuts are metric. So do I need 7/16 and can you get a 7/16 tapered nut to suit!?

Steve, I am not sure about the Laser rims but the MK 1 Capri does use 7/16 wheel nuts unless the studs have been changed to metric at some point in the cars life. I am fairly sure the tapers do match and that it is only the thread that changes, then you will need 7/16 nuts. The major issue I have is the hole for the wheel studs in the rim is only 26 mm. This is why I have to use a hybrid wheel nut being 19 mm socket head with a 7/16 thread to suit the standard studs. If the hole in your rim is larger than 26 mm you may be able to use standard 7/16 wheel nuts, I however can not

Thanks for the info. I think you are correct in that the mk1 Capri uses 7/16 thread, the later Laser capri wheel nuts I think are metric and tapered with a floating type washer. These are the ones I need I think but in 7/16 thread.

Thanks again for the info. So I need Capri Laser metric studs and the same metric tapered, floating washer nuts. Would you the best place to get them? Appreciate the help.

All done and dusted, 7/16 wheel nuts from Auto Pro $2.85 each with same taper as my wheel and a 19 mm metric head.
If only the wife left me, I would have the time to finish the car.
