Escort Mk2 Boss kit on Mk1?

Hi guys,

Want to put a boss kit on my 74 mk1. There's a lot of mk2 kits on the net and not a lot of mk1 ones. Just wondering whether anyone knew if a mk2 boss kit will fit on the mk1 no probs? Is there any difference in the column or mounts etc.

Thanks!

Jayden.

The splined section is different from mk1 to mk2, so unfortunately the mk2 steering wheel boss won't fit.
You can always 'make one'. Cut the boss off the back of an old mk1 wheel, have a new flange plate professional quality welded to it then drill & tap threads to match your steering wheel bolt pattern. You can shorten the length a bit by where you cut , but need to be sensible about it. I did this on an ICV which was subsequently fully engineered for registration here in Victoria.  There was a post on the RS motorsport forum/ interiors, a few months ago showing pictures of one fabricated this way.
    hope this helps,

    Hey Mate,

I just bought a boss kit for my MKII but it's for a MKI.

It was off eBay and cost me $45 but it's yours for $20.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Sorry matt, I ordered a saas one the other day (a lot more than 20 bucks too). Would have grabbed it for sure but wouldn't really need two of them.

    Hi fellas,

Got my Boss kit today but it doesn't fit. I'm thinking I may have a mk2 shaft? The diameter on the spline section on the boss is a lot bigger than the collumn. Does anyone know which model had a larger diameter spline...mk1 or mk2? Any rough measurements so I can compare the two and try to exchange it for the right one.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Chuff.

Looking at the website they make a boss kit for 1970-75 and then another for 1970-75. I got the 70-75 which I think is the 1600-2000 models and mine was originally a 1300 which is the 70-74. All sorted hopefully and should be able to switch it out for the other variant.
