Twin, single side drafts or 32/36??
Hey all just after opinions and a bit more knowledge then I have got...
At the moment the van is running twin side draft dellortos and whilst I don't think the engine has her world on I'm wondering if this is the best carb set up for all round acceleration and drivability.
So what's best? Get the ones I've got tuned and spend money on the head and cam?
What performance does a single side draft offer compared to a 32/36 weber?
Really keen to learn more from your knowledge on this subject?
Cheers BT

A good all-rounder is go back to the std inlet and find a 38dgas...this will give good acceleration and torque without the tuning problems of twins and thirst . You can do some slight porting on the head, mainly remove the lumps and castings once done take to a machine shop to skim a good 0.080th from std height deck head. just these mods will add about 30ish bhp without cam swaps .

Dont waste your time with a single side draft. 38DG*s or a 40DFAV on a standard down draft manifold will work much better

While I don't disagree with the advice that a DGAS is a good choice, 30hp extra from that and a 80 thou skim sounds very optimistic to me. A stock engine is 94 hp (probably excluding ancilliaries like the alternator) so that would make it a 32% increase in power (much more at the wheels) for almost no effort. Could it really be true?

Thanks for the input, I am going to start the hunt, it seems I have now got a set of twin side draft dellortos for sale lol.
I will start asking my engine builder some questions if they ever get back to me, have only found one option for engine building up here on mid north coast area... Anyone heard of North coast engine located in Coffs???

Properly set up and tuned Twin dellortos are superior and will outperform any option mentioned above. More importantly you already have them, definitely keep your twins and get them tuned!!!! Cheers

definately keep the twins. as per last post, if there tuned properly then they will be better than the rest. even the emissions versions of 40mm dellortos can be made to run well on a pinto, although their less tunable when you start modifying. they wont use any more fuel than any of the other setups if done right. What is the car going to be used for? Twins are great for a weekend blast and a practical lesson on tuning carbs.... I like the idea of a single 38, it'll fit under the stock manifold and air cleaner and should fool most folks and especially the constabulary if its a daily or club car.... Best of luck with the rebuild...............

Will have a quick look this morning before I get to work, I've been slowly gettin it apart over the last week, took me like an hour and a a half just to get the brake booster off.. What a pain.
The van will be used for a once or twice a week driver plus some cruising on weekends when weather permits. I like the look of the side draft carbs on the car, coupled with a nice set of extractors the induction sound alone is enough, was just looking for all options.
Engine mods will be converting to unleaded and possible the next level Cam the FR 32?
Again thanks for all the info it's been good reading

Had a quick scan this morning, still a bit dark in the shed, they are 40's DLHA, couldn't find the letter stamped on the top of them, will have a better look this afternoon.

Should look something like this Brad. if they are anything but C, E or no prefix, then they are emission type carbs. if there is no letter then that is good. means there definitely not emissions and you can use the link provided for some close jetting recommendations.
