V6 Rear Wheel Bearings

I have just had to replace the rear axle bearings in my 3000E as they whined like a toddler on a roadtrip without a wiggles tape.  As my local bearing guy did not have a listing on the capri, well he did but the description did not make sense, I got my axles out and had them measured up.  No problem finding an equivalent part and at a good price (about $25 each).  However, the capri use a pressed on ring to secure the bearing onto the axle.  The rings supplied (and fitted) foul on the axle tube locking the axle.  I chamfered the leading edge on the grinder but it still fouled.  I then tried to roughly grind down the outside and got it to free up but due to the uneveness of my grinding it would catch occasionally.  This is obviously no good and asking for a snapped axle (which I have known a few people to have suffered). 
 
Are the snap rings available seperately in different sizes?  Or do I need to find someone with a lathe to turn down the ring and chamfer the edge?.      

Yes this has hapened to me also, in fact my bearings made a very similar noise.
I bought a local set and the shrink ring fouled in the same way. Its a pity we find out after the thing is fitted. Lucky I had a couple of extra rings that did fit so it was sorted fairly easy. So all things considered the uk kits are not too dear after all.

Is there some tooling avaible to help with pressing these off or do they have to be cut off these days?
