Im surprised that the three wise mechanics couldnt solve the problem. Maybe what is now needed is an auto electrician.

Sadly if a mechanic can't get your car going then they are NOT a mechanic, well not a good one anyway. Sorry to hear you have come across 3 **** ones, I hope you haven't paid for their crap work. 1990 capri is a simple machine and shouldn't take long at all sorting it out. Might need to find a competent mechanic. where are you located?

Hi yes it was running when I brought it. And then 2 1/2 months later it nearly over heated, had hole in radiator. So I got brought home on tow truck. Got new radiator & hoses, Got oil & filter done, spark plugs & leads done. Took for a drive was running nice, then next day wouldn't start. Tried for a wk and no luck. Check oil and it was milky so got head gasket done and head shaved. The guy that shaved head said it wasn't that bad. Since all put back together it hasn't run. Had mobile mechanic come out and he had no idea as it has compression , fuel and spark. Booked another mobile mechanic who didn't turn up. Also booked a auto electrician who didn't turn up. So I got it towed to a mechanic who wks on older cars. He had car for nearly 3 wk & thinks it from the steering. He put start u **** in it and it started but didn't stay started. Got car brought home on tow truck. And yesterday had auto king out for two hrs. He was checking electricals. He checked all electrical on steering and its fine. He thinks its between the computer and injectors.the car will kick over but want start. I am just so lost and unsure which path to take as my money is nearly out. Thanks heaps for answering me. Really appreciated.

Ok having a bit of history helps. If engine runs with starting fluid it means no fuel pressure or no injector pulse. I take it fuel pressure was checked and was ok. I might be wrong but from memory the ecu sits directly below the heater box, and have seen a few heater cores on those cars leak coolant onto the ecu and damage it. Once again from memory that Efi system is fuel only control and would explain why still has ignition(spark) and runs with starting fluid. It is just a theory but worth looking at.

    Cheers

Usually can see coolant stains but depends how big the leak was/is. Remove it from car and have a good look.

Also the reason it wont run now might be different to the original reason.
First, it overheated and blew the head gasket and wouldnt run. Then with this fixed, the timing belt may have been put back wrong or the distributor put back 180 degrees out. Things to check.

Wont run after head re-done, did the leads go back on in the correct order?  E-W engines in the capri F/O is 1-3-4-2, Number 1 Cyl is closest to Passenger side, Number 1 on dizzy cap is in the 3 o'clock position, and the rotor turns ANTI clockwise

Capri The car I always promised myself

can't be 180 deg out as distributor and camshaft run offset slot and only fit one way.
if anything was seriously wrong with cam timing or ignition timing it just wouldn't run, but it runs on aerostart(starting fluid). so problem is fuel delivery.
    cheers
