Best oil for type 9

Hi all
Just put 5 speed type 9 in my mk1, wont go into first until warm, used standard manual gearbox oil, what oils are other people using

    i use Castrol Syntrans 75 / 85 in the rally car that runs a type 9, and also in the Nb race car gearbox

    Yep, what Ted said.  80/90 is way too thick for those.  The hard part now is getting it out again!

    Make it go FASTER!

    I even found syntrans 75w85 to be too thick in my t9. Castrol VMX80 works well but is just basic mineral oil.
    I changed to full synth Redline MTL 70w80 for the track & it works well too.
    Going to try Penrite Trans Gear 75w80 next change (semi-synth)
    I drill & tap the bottom of the box (centre of magnet recess) for a bspt drain plug.

    When I asked this question previously on another forum the answer I got was Redline Shockproof Lite.  That's what I use but beware...it's not shockproof when you see the price!!

    Okay changed my oil, I work at a tractor wreckers and the mechanic suggested using UTTF oil, very thin, not sure on specs though, seemed to make quite a difference, apparantly its the oil to have in your tractor!
