stupid question but are the bell housingto engine bolts tight if not when u press the clutch it will push the gearbox away from the engine causing this problem seen people do this a few times

doing valve clearances aswell and can you tell me how you tell which is exhaust an inlet? Is it as simple as the valve sprin on the inlet side is the inlet one and opposite for exhuast

Just look where the manifold ports/runners meet the head. The respective valves will be adjacent.
