ford motorcraft distributor keeps jumping the timing out SEVERELY

Hi all.. i just returned from the states where i travelled for a year so my memory is a bit foggy.. but b4 i left i was messing with the dizzy, i basically took it apart and put it back together.

I remember the shaft not rotating as easily when i put it back together.. its a pita to get the c clip off inside the shaft!! any ideas here?

Well - after MANY trials i finally got her running like a mad henchman yesterday - for 1/2 a day till the timing jumped out again! I think i might have a loose gear at the bottom (the pin isnt doing a 100% job!) afaik the gear a press on right? and then the pin is basically just a failsafe? 

Im going to take it out again and try make that sucker stay in place! ill tac weld it if i have to but im sick of getting stuck on the side of the road!!
