Test Fuel Pump

How do you test if a fuel pump works of the car? Mk1 Escort 1600

    If you are talking a mechanical one then they either work or they don't.  They need the spring to be compressed and they need a fair bit of pressure as I just tried compressing one by hand.
     
    What is the issue?

    I think they work at 6 psi and you should be able to hold them in you hands and make them pump -  you will need to fit a hose to the inlet   and place that in some petrol --  you can make up a Teater but its mucking in
