I wondered if this car was one of specials also given its August 72 build date. I checked the list of 12 cars and it doesnt appear on there so I guess its not one. In terms of other signs It had a 9 inch diff so I dont know what the original diff ratio was. The gearbox is with the car but Im not sure of the 2nd gear ratio. The engine has oval port heads but these are easily changed.
It would be nice if it was one of the specials but Im of course happy with the colour combo and sunroof. You cant have everything!

The engine bay stripping was really interesting. It was a real of frustration that a rare car had been messed around with along with the stress and excitement associated with dicovering what damage had and hadnt been done. The process created an incredible amount of dust, chunks of filler and shredded metal.

I remember when this car was for sale and looking at the engine bay and thinking, whats going on here? I was doubtful that it was even a gt because the battery indent was not visible. So this probably put off a fair few buyers and resulted in Anthony getting a great car at the right price.
I love the fact that it will be finished in the original blue, it will be a brilliant contrast to the other cars in the club lineup. There was a period when many painted their cars red even if it wasnt the original color. Too many cars in one color is very boring so the more cars that are not red even makes the red ones look better.
If Anthonys yellow fire gt is a example of his work then we expect that this new project will be even better.

I was thinking the same Ron. I think people were put off thinking that it wasnt a V6. The difficulty was that the seller didnt want to sell the car so he very reluctanty let me look at the car. Once I looked at it you could see the battery indent from inside the wheel arch as well as other factory markings which were covered up from the engine bay side. Its surprising how few blue capris you see. There werent many blue capri's offered by Ford. You could get Ice Blue, Bold Blue, Starlight Blue, True Blue and Blaze Blue. Looking at Capri club sites etc you are lucky to see a couple of each of the different blue Capris still around. I have seen another Blaze Blue Capri from NSW on the web. Its a very good condition car and I'd like to find the owner of it. Colour variety is a good thing. Thanks for your kind comments (and pressure) Ron. Ive got high expectations for this car and feel that given the colour combo, sunroof and engine that I cant do anything less than a top job. Let's hope I can achieve this. ronsmallford

Thanks for the lead. I'll see if I can make contact with the owner. If my car ends up looking as good as that I'll be very happy. I checked on the panel beaters progress yesterday and he has completed at least 50% of the work in about 3 days. I've updated photobucket with some shots. He's almost finished removing the rolled profile on the front and rear guards. In the engine back he has replaced the damaged gusset bracket, repairs front RHS accident damage, prepared the battery tray and indent area as well as a number of other repairs. At this rate he will be finished this week coming and the car will be ready for the spray painter (just need to secure my spot with him now). v4capmad

Was just looking through some earlier photos when I was stripping the car and came across some photo's of the 'winged sump' on my V6. As you can see from the photos the sump has a custom baffle system with gates which prevent oil surge when cornering. Has anyone seen these on other Capri's before?

The sump is similar to the one I use on my Mk3 3.0S Group C Capri. My motors are built by Bo Seton, he also made the sump, the baffling is a bit more than yours, but very similar. I think the wings maybe a bit bigger too. See pics below...   Cheers, Carl

Thats a tough looking engine!
Bo Seton may have built my winged sump as John M confirmed that he didn't.
Talking engines, has anyone used Competition Coatings in Brisbane to ceramic coat their extractors? Similiar price to Jet Hot ($300) but minus the 100 bucks freight.

Yep Anthony they did mine awsome job and good service
The only thing that beats HORSEPOWER is TORQUE. You can sleep in your car but u cant race your house. 1972 V6 DELETE

Thanks for the feedback Matt. Given that I'm running K&N open filters on my triples I'd like to keep the intake air as cool as possible. It's a shame the capri's didn't come with some form of cold air induction via a duct or scoop etc. On another note, at last night's QLD Capri Club meeting the topic of sports road wheels came up whilst I was providing a project update (my car was optioned with option 52 - sports road wheels). It was suggested that the sports road wheel in 1972 was the ROH 'minilite copy' wheel (the wheel with the alloy centre and steel outer). I've attached a picture from a period advert. I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts/understanding on what factory optioned sports road wheels were used between 1969 and 1972 and was there any difference between wheels fitted to 4 or 6 cylinder cars?

Performance coatings on headers realy do work. Within a few minutes of turning off you can touch them and not get burnt.
The capris did come with a variable induction. The extension of the air intake would swivel down towards the extractors for hot air during winter and forward for cold air during summer. This probably worked a lot better in europe than here tho. I have removed this bit and the choke completly and it works fine here in qld.
The advert above applies to 70 and 71 models (low back seats). The mirrors are xy type, the72 models had the xa type. For 72 the standard wheels were steels with a chrome dress ring and centre chrome dome.
Capris were becoming very expensive due to the import duty on the ckd kits, so were trying to fit as much local stuff in as possible.
My car which was one of the last capris finished was cobbled together with whatever was left at the factory and because of the uprated mechanicals, was fitted with 13 by 6 rostyles. These wheels were available on capris from 1969 (might have been narrower tho) and were superseded in england with a four slot rostyle. Mine were the older style eight slot.
For 1972 the seats were updated to cortina tc shape. This was an improvement and also incresed the aussie content but by the time november came and with the last few cars being made mine was built with the older style seats ( factory must have had some left).
