Was the Capri just a fashion accessory?

This is one of quite a few ads that I have discovered in the 1969-70 copies of the Women's Weekly.
I will be posting as many as I can find on my blog at:http://fordcaprichatter.blogspot.com.au/
This page is from the 27 August 1969 edition.
Cheers

If the NRMA is to be believed then yes, as in 1972 they announced that they were increasing the number of insurance categories from 4 to 5, and that as a result Capri premiums would be going down while Escort premiums would be going up.

"Premiums will rise in the case of some Holden Monaros. the Torana XUI. Mazda R100, all Valiant Chargers and sedans. Ford Escorts, most Morris Marinas, the Austin Kimberley and Tasman, some Volkswagens, the Ford Falcon GT and GTHO. and the Morris Clubman. Premium costs will be reduced for the Ford Capri. Honda Scamp. Ford Cortina, the Morris Marina TC Coupe, and some Fiats."

This is hard proof that Escorts are manly cars like the Monaro, XU1, GTHO and Austin Tasman, and that Capris should be left to dolly-birds like in the photo.

P.S.  While the newspaper report is genuine (Canberra Times, 29 April 1972), I'm obviously just kidding around - Capri owners are manly men whom I don't want any trouble with!

yep! Thats exactly what I meant! (except the pink of course). They're 2 cylinders short, not as long, and just a compromise between a grocery getter and a real car!

Are you saying the 4 cylinder Capris are the girly ones?
