Found massive amounts of old parts in original boxes

Hi all

I have found old parts here in the china town of bangkok, this is an area where the car parts suppliers are, well there are some shops there that have been working for generations, so I have found some fantastic stuff and can just about track anything.

10 packs of 1.6L cam shaft set including rockers  and cam shaft
20 + fuel pumps
10 plus oil pumps
50+ ignition switches
door handles 50 plus
the list goes on and on and on.

These are ford parts and original boxes,

so more to follow soon as I have asked them to make a stock list

can some people give me suggestions of rare parts that are hard to find and expensive as I would like to know if it is worth my time to set this up as a business,

Cheap chinese copies. I wouldnt be the only one on here that has paid NOS price for a part only to find that it is just a cheap and nasty copy.
Cheap parts might have their place but when they are passed off as NOS and priced accordingly well thats just fraud.

I know what you mean, here is the nice part, this company was a ford dealer these are not cheap copy parts! after being an engineer for 25 years and living here for 7 I can tell the difference as a rule from original to cheap copy. the boxes are years old, the layer of dust shows the fact that they havent moved in decades.

it is of no loss to me not to follow this up, it up to you guys!

I will check on the capri, I know they had about 50 door handles but the chrome was in need of replating.

I may well be able to source you these parts, I will put it through the grape vine and see what comes up, the cool things is that I am dealing with the old boys from this area, up to 3 generation of business.
They just supplied parts and machined my 1990 bmw 318i m40 motor for a total recondition fantastic job with great parts! Tight engine, the old sage of a machinest warned me to warm it up nice before thrashing it, but it has been built to tight spec and will be a fun motor. ohh and yes it is modifided. as for fun ........ great!!

He was right, bloody tight and fantastic fun! lightened the fly wheel, added a 2 inch pipe with nissian and toyota boxes so the sounds is deep and smooth but not harsh, also flowed the head to original BMW spec, did this by hand, removing the machine marks and flowing the ports in general, matched the manifolds also added LPG system with 4 point injection that is computer mapped. it is a fun car to drive and now putting out a lot more than it was when new.

In all this is the last of the honest old boys, I have spent enough time and money there with my Thai wife to be classed as an engineer to be respected and not ripped off!

by the way I get asked if I want copy or original!

I get parts from the same places that the main companies get them, I have friends that are suppliers for GM and Ford, when they have to service a car that they no longer carry stock for they go to these old boys! over 55 years working in the business that his father set up!

The down side to this wealth of knowledge is I asked them to recommend a good mechanic for an old MGA, the answer was "I dont know as all the good ones are dead now!"

So to sum things up it is a dieing breed of old sages that know cars from the time they could walk, it is sad to see that this information is not being past on as they are walking textbooks of knowledge !

Hey mate just my two pennies worth,

Id get in touch with a president or whatever of a cortina club, then send him one of each item so he could assess there originality and go from there, that will either make it a goer or not. The club would be a great way to sell items through too. Maybe a uk club would be good to try also as cortinas are big over there (im a pomme)
If they are originall parts id get whatever you can they will never go down in value!
    Good luck!
P.S If you want an aussie agent send me a mail

I think the photos I will have will tell it all, as for aussy agent sounds like a good plan, the thing is I dont have to purchase anything this stock has been sitting there fore decades and wont be going anywhere soon! the nice bit is that it seems to be priced at 1980 prices, I can purchase a 1.6L cam set including cam and rockers ect about $100 aussy if dollars! if I buy all ten of his stock then I will get a discount for sure!

I already have a great business in bangkok and the wife works in the oil and gas industry so to do this it has to be for fun, dont get me wrong I will have to make a little for my time and transport, but I dont want to go to the effort to invest money in buying stock and sending it to clubs ect, although I might be able to cut a deal, if they class it as original then they pay cost and can sell it on?

Put it simple I have found great stock and will supply photos soon, it also covers Austin, rover, merc, bmw ect, now I cant be bothered to do the ground work and push this hard, but if people want to help set up something and contact clubs ect get them to contact me, you will find that it is good original parts........ make it fun and I will push it.

    Hi There ,

Could you get me a price and avalability of a Mark1 4 gauge cluster/mounting pod which was used on Aussie GT cortinas?  I go to Thailand regularly but it will probably not be able to get there until next year.

    Cheers,
