Many years have passed, car has slowly progressed and I've honestly forgotten to keep updated on here!

Having saved up the funds I'm looking at upgrading the following
Quick rack steering rack
New sleeved Bilstein inserts with 2.25" springs front
Leaf and Damper Bilsteins on rear
Race tank and mount

Any suggestions or go to guides with purchasing anything?
I've rang a few local suspension joints and they seem to think it's going to be easiest to purchase this from the UK

Cheers

smckaperformance (MEL based) has just received a new batch of goodies from the UK.  Might be worth checking them out.     www.smckaperformance.com.au  (no affiliation, etc etc)

There used to be a place in Adelaide doing this kind of stuff IIRC.

Bulky/heavy items arrive in about 4-7 days from UK by courier.  You can even watch your tracked parcel see the sights of many interesting freight facilities !!!  (yawn)  The trick is to fill that box as much as possible with goodies  to offset the cost of freight.  Be aware of GST applying if the landed goods value ($purchase + $freight) exceeds the import GST threshhold.

As with most people on this site, I have brought a shed load of stuff in from the UK.  You could cobble many bits together yourself locally but why invent the wheel.

I have bought a lot from Grp4Fabrication.  Torsten is a great bloke to deal with and their gear is outstanding.

I think the general feeling about RallyDesign is that their stuff is cheaper in quality.

Gartrac did nice stuff but I think it was higher priced than most.

Smckaperformance was always great to deal with when operated by Stephen.  I thought they closed down but it appears they may have been bought out and reopened?

Freight from the UK is not all that bad and delivery times are good.  Keep individual orders/invoices below $1000 to avoid paying duty and GST.

I built my car 3 years ago so things may have changed.

its still a $1000 limit on importing goods. then you get stung.
UK is definitely the way to go for a lot of parts.
the leaves you can get here, i think a lot of people are running king spring leaf packs, if that what you are referring too?
or you could go down to industrial springs on port road and get them to make whatever you want. i got my leaves made there to the rate that i wanted, same with the front springs.
i run bilsteins front and rear and ended up getting them from the USA. was about 1/2 the price of the UK distributors, but that was a while ago now.
why do you want a race tank? is it for the extra volume?
if your going to go racing, then the side tanks aren't at all bad. they aren't very wide so fuel doesn't move around much.
if you want a tank for the extra capacity and for the bling, then go for it, they look cool. just get one with a built in swirl pot for when you want to upgrade to fuel injection later on.
good luck.

Yeah, and I found them to be very export unfriendly. There's a thread I started about that you might wish to read if you are considering buying from them..

WTB: Recaro seat - any condition considered

Another few months have passed and things seem to be slowing down.
It's been a tough couple weeks sending three cross members back to the UK because they weren't welded properly and now the brakes aren't fitting up!

I think the issue is I had 1.6L struts originally then upgraded to 2L struts. I can't imagine that these struts are wrong as well as the cross member!

Any suggestions? I'm thinking I'll just get the discs machined down a few mm to make up the clearance.

You say 2L struts, aren't they Capri struts?
Are the pistons all the way back into the caliper, Try pushing them back with a G clamp if your not sure.

Sorry, I had 2L struts in and then converted over to coilovers. It's not that the pads are touching in terms of thickness it's actual diameter of the disc.

It's kinda hard to see but on the second image the disc is actually touching the pins holding the brake pads in.

They're Capri struts as the original Aus 2.0L struts did not have bolt on steering arms.

I think this gives you a good reason to go venteds of some type..... And 4 pot calipers !
If you can lightly lathe the diameter of those rotors by all of 1mm will stop the pins from scraping ..

Oh really? Are you around Fullarton?
I ended up using Capri discs that are 2mm less in diameter and the offset is 0.5/1mm different. Still bolts up fine!
Now to work out why it won't start and take it for a drive!
