Thanks jimmy. Should my cam turn out to be not suitable. Any one recomend a good grind for an overbored 2L 10:1 compression. Forged pistons. ported. large valves, cc'd. balanced. twin 40mm dcoes. pacemakers and to be driven primarily on the street with the occasional barbegelloes run?

I have heard good things about FR22 & FR32. You are better off contacting somwhere like Clive cams or Wade cams and havingha a chat as they are the dudes who make them and can recomend something that will suit. Cheers, Matt

The lobe centres are too wide on the standard cam. Plus the intake lobe c/l is too retarded for my liking especially with a milled head.
You need to know your rev range, power goals, and redline to select a cam. Upgraded cam will likely need heavier valve springs too.

sorry spigot, i do have stronger valve springs. and long pad followers. I guess i would like power between 2-6 . being a street car i want the power down low. having said that i also don't want the waste all the work i put into porting and valves n stuff. The cam i have has 40 ovelap and .47 lift but is a 20/60 Maybe its just timing but it spits alot. Since i have to take the motor out next week - "dave" has me reviewing my cam choice.

Do you have your actual cam specs?
What is the cranking psi of your motor?
What is wrong with your current cam??

specs ftp://members.westnet.com.au/Pic.htm The lift is .47 so i'm not sure what the .29 is (lobe lift??) not sure on psi. well it's not that quick at the mo - but still alot of jetting to do. My main concern is the spitting out the carbs. It's more Dave suggesting it is a very short inlet time and it's somewhat different to what he's used to seeing. he showed me a couple of cam timing sheets that he thought it should be more like. My choice for this cam was simply that i want the power "off the mark" since on the street you just don't get to rev it out much. I still want that - but then it would seem a shame to waste all the other work by stiffling it with the wrong cam. i guess since the motor is coming out he's suggesting i review the choice.

If you haven't set it up properly on a dyno, how can you complain that's it not doing what you want it to? Carb spitting is a lean issue I think. At least it is on my bike carbs. Good luck Matt

I know. Dave does racing so he's in my ear about timings like i say - since the motors coming out and we can change the cam. I think it will be long time b 4 i can afford a dyne by the sound of the prices. well its showing very rich on the exhaust sensor.

None of your links work!
Spitting out of the carbs can be many things, including fuel.
If "Dave" is it to racing so much can't he tune it for you? I am assuming you have a wideband which is all you really need.
The cranking compression is very important information along with the cam data

sorry spigot - ftp no good to u :-P http://members.westnet.com.au/daz_f/pic.htm he probably could/would if i asked and wanted to. I however like to do these things myself coz then i learn. It gets awfully expensive if you have to run to a mechanic everytime. It a narrow band - wide band wont work with gauge. aremed with stock specs and several cam alternatives we will have a chat and see what we are gonna do. In the meantime i think i am going to play slightly with cam timing to see what happens. Dave (who took me for a spin in thier racing 3.9L triumph V8 - scary fast!!!!) commented that the burton cam which is jut a few degrees different to mine would still be significant different performance wise.

Buy a wideband it will be the best money you ever spent if you want to learn. They're dirt cheap nowadays.
That cam card had very little information, not enough to degree it in or a comparison.
I HIGHLY recommend doing a compression test. This will give you a lot of information. If you have very low compression and mechanically all is good then this normally means the compression ratio is not what you thought or the lobe centres are really wide.
In my experience I have seen cams ground on wide lsa's then installed straight up. This puts the intake lobe in effectively "retarded". You end up with a really lazy motor.
