Cosworth into mk1 cortina

How's it going
I have a mk1 cortina 4 door that I would like to put a cosworth motor into I have a engine lined up but just curious as to other modifications that will be needed obviously cutting tunnel which I've already done to fit a celica five speed behind my 1600 and also you have to change the engine and gearbox crossmembers but I more concerned about suspension brakes and diff mods

Will my standard suspension be under a lot more stress with the cossie? There is a guy advertising a front suspension and brake upgrade from standard to coil over and Nissan 4 pot brakes is this a good option as its off the shelf kind of option?

Rear brakes what are my options? Can I keep the standard drums if I upgrade the front?

And diff what's my options what's going to be strong but not cost a fortune has anyone done any diff mods on a mk1 cortina before other than a quife LSD or are these strong enough to withstand the extra power

Sorry for so many questions but I'm only 20 and want to explore all my options before I decide cause of course there's the option of sr20 but I would much prefer cosworth ford powering a ford

Any input really appreciated thank you

Check out Phil's build thread (http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/tm.aspx?m=44306) as this is what he has done.

Phil still gets onto the forum fairly regularly, or just pm him.

As for brakes, before you decide in anything, if you are considering rego, consult an engineer as this will be the deciding factor.

Jordan's brakes are an excellent bit of kit, (I'm now using the same disc and calipers on my escort).

On my mk2 cortina, I have gone through a couple of different options now including rod shop xf falcon conversion, 5 stud zephyr hubs (suit escort hubs), and now 300mm discs with skyline calipers.  You can also use other disc options such as the Pug 407 305mm discs which will mount (with mods) in the original location.  The ebay UPC kit is an option (make sure you read the thread on mk1cortina.com first) and the hoppers kit is another option.

Do you homework and consult an engineer first.

As for rear, it really depends on your diff selection, if using standard, Paul has a kit using the r31 calipers, if upgrading, your cut down borgwarner (most common option) will probably already have discs.

In terms of cossie, you will need a custom sump and pickup if you decide to use the standard crossmember, I'm using a high energy job

Have a look at the mk1 cortina forum.

Brake upgrades are the easy part. :)

    Shaun.

Thanks Shaun your input is really helping out would the engineer have to see the kit before he could really say anything about the process or could he just go off images, yeah I've done a little bit of research and cutting down a Borg Warner seems to be the best option even though they are Salisbury type, as for custom sump on the cossie did you make your own or purchase the high energy sump if so from where?
I will have to check so more out on the mk1 cortina forum as I've been told a few times its the place to go
    Thanks for your help Shaun
