Convert early Mk1 rear shocks to later Mk2 style

Hey all,

I've got an early Mk1 Escort with the 45 degree rear shocks and was thinking of cutting out the rear shock mounting panel from a Mk2 Escort and fitting it to my car and running the later more upright Mk2 shock.

Has anyone done this conversion, or have any advice or opinions?

Thanks.

Have thought of doing this to my mk1 as well.. Looks like you need the cross section and also the bulkhead might help as well.

Thanks for the link evodba2. Pretty much exactly how I was thinking of doing it. Simply cut out the box shaped section which the top of the shocks bolt to from a Mk2 donor car, cut 2 holes in my floorpan for the shocks to go through and weld the donor section into place.

The link you provided didn't seem to confirm that anyone had definitely done the conversion, so I'm still not sure if it can be done. I'd have thought the conversion would have been done quite a few times by folks over the years, but I can't find any information confirming so.

    Thanks.

i did it to my early mk1  so it can be done  its fairly straight forward if you have some panel knowledge
although mine was on a rollover jig so that made it more accessable

I did it to a 1970 Escort using an '81 rally pack as donor. Pretty much the same way but I didn't have the roll-over jig at that time. Unpicking it from the donor without warping was the hard bit, the rest is straight forward .
