Trim options on 2dr Mk2

Howdy,

I am looking for info on the factory trims on the 2 door mk2's. Reason being that I have trim on mine as in the pictures below, however the drivers door trim is missing. Is this standard trim or not? If I cant find a piece of trim to suit I'll likely end up tearing it all off, filling the plug holes and installing a black vinyl strip.

Cheers,

Rob

    That looks standard.

Here's a pic of mine before I took them off.  They were just held on with double sided tape.

These are actually mounted with holes along the side of the car and plastic clips. Also I have never seen another Mk2 with the trim stopping before the front guards...

Your trim looks after market to me.  The trim Matt posted is one of several styles Ford used, this one having a silver foil around the top and bottom edges.

Matt, if you don't need your trim, please get in touch.

Early mk2 used stick on trim with no holes, but later mk2 's had slightly wider trim that was held on by clips with holes in the panels/doors... The later trim had more chrome above than below the rubber strip in the middle, whereas the earlier stick in stuff appears to be asymetrical... The later trim had two types of clips with typically the first and or last ones being the bolt on type to hold it tight and the intermediate ones being of a wire clip in type... RS and L models did not have either from factory. XL, GL and Ghia had the trim from factory except the rally packs...

Here is one of the clips used to secure the trim to the door... If anyone has a spare drivers door trim let me know.
I also have the trim for the 2 door which goes all the way up the front guards if anyone is interested, I can take some pics if needed.

That clip is one of the "normal clips" for the later type trim that is used in the middle of the trims.  On at least the some ends of the trim the clips are different with a square metal clip that is tightened by a nut on the back to hold the trim firmly on.  In the trim itself you should see some cutouts in the lips where the square piece slides into the trim before you tighten it.  Pretty sure the one on the front of the doors and the final one for the rear panel trim are teh square metal ones.

Good luck with the plastic ones, as most are brittle by now and although not broken, will break when trying to remove the clips.

Do you need the door trim for a 4 or 2 dr.... 4dr should be much easier to get and I should have one of those if you need it
