Rotors rubbing on caliper pins

Had a play with the front struts to see if the Volvo calipers fit properly with the rotors.

I had a set of old pads I threw in to make sure it all fits up nice and it turns out the rotors just rub on the caliper brake pad pins. They still spin but make a little grinding noise so it's only a bees' nut out.

I am not sure what to do as all I can think of is to machine the rotors down about 1 - 2mm so they'll clear.

Any ideas?

Here's a few pics.

Matt

    Hi Matt,

I had the same set up on my old rally car. It appears that the callipers require the mounting hole opened up to allow the calliper to sit higher,
This will stop the pins rubbing on the rotor.

    Cheers
    Craig

    Hi Craig,

Long time no speak.  Hope the family are well?

That's what I hoped would happed but the guy who slotted them for me didn't allow for this obviously.

I'm scared if I open the holes out further I run the risk of the calipers moving around and start rubbing on the calipers again?

Hence my question as to whether it's OK to just machine the rotors down by 2mm or so.

    Cheers

Easiest way is to do what Craig said. If you want you can bring the calipers over next weekend and do them here.

They wont come undone or move if you do them up tight and also fit the bolts with a flat and spring washer. If yo0u are paranoid you can put some loctite on the thread but i dont bother

    Make it go FASTER!

    Sounds like a plan.

    Speak tomorrow night.

How'd you go today.  Was half thinking of coming down for a look.

    Cheers,

Jack the car up so that the rim is off the ground. Put one side on top of the wheel and one side on the end. Try to rock the rim by pulling/pushing. If the rim moves in and out or rocks the bearings are bad. Since the rotors sits on the hub assembly which isn't supposed to rock back and forth it is able to clear the caliper bracket. On a worn hub the rotor is able to shift a little bit resulting in the rotors to rub against the caliper.
