Upgrade your jumper leads!
Hi.
After trying to start my pinto out of the car it became apparent that the starter was not getting enough current from the battery. I decided to pull the rubber down from the alligators and discovered the '80A' jumper leads had about 2/10 copper and 8/10 insulation.... a bit like honey chicken!!!
So I used some 6mm twin solar DC cable from work for each lead. Recrimped the alligators over the cable cores and fixed with small hose clamps.
Now the alligators get warm but cable stays nice and cool
And of course plenty of current supplied to the starter!

You could go one step further and replace the cheapo aligators with earth clamps for an electric welder
