Welcome Bernie.
You need to join the local Capri Car Club (www.capricarclub.org.au) and bring your 'special' along to Small Ford Sunday at Seaworks, Williamstown on February 2nd. All Capri's will be on show in the big shed celebrating the 40th anniversary of the RS3100 Capri. See you there? Also, we have Federation Square booked for Australia Day on January 26th from 11:00 to 2:30, should be a blast!
Keep on Capri'n, Terry

Hi Terry,
Are non-members of the Capri Car Club welcome to bring their Capri, who cant join CCC due to owning so many collectables ?
Such a dilemma having too many Makes!

Bernie, you're most welcome to come along to Small Ford Sunday, as it's open to anyone with a 'Small Ford'. Fed Square only has capacity for 30 Capri's and I'm afraid it is for Club members only. The Club does however cater for people with multiple cars, including different makes, within reason, so long as you own a Capri. Food for thought anyway. I look forward to seeing you around the scene somewhere soon, cheers, Terry

Price is what the GT V6 cars in similar condition are going for, it may justify an extra grand or two, but remember that they were not built as a homologation special, just had the slightly later drivetrain fitted as the UK ran out of the zephyr type.  Its not like the difference between a GT falcon and a GTHO falcon.  Check finished items on Ebay and see what similar condition cars actually sold for, that would be a good starting point, or ring Shannons send them some photos and they will give you an insurance estimate

I bought my car in 2005 for $7500. It was pretty straight, had a worked engine, limited slip diff and 24mm sway bar. It was in need of a complete restoration and I think I paid about $1500 over the average value for a car in that condition at the time. ( the seller wasnt told that i used to own the car in the seventies until after the car was secured on my trailer).  Then over a period of five years of spare time the car was rebuilt costing another $13000.
The car is insured for $30000 and the insurance company queried this until i showed them detailed pics.
How much is all that labour worth? I dont know but any buyer will have in mind how much time and effort it will take and will want some incentive to do it.
$10000 to $13000 seems reasonable from a buyers point of view, but I could be wrong tho get more opinions. Sometimes when something like this is sold at auction it brings way over what most thought.
Cheers,...ron.

Capri has been running really ratty lately with steering shake, heavy steering and knocking from front end at parking and turning. I thought it might be the "gland" nut that holds the shock insert had come loose as it had in the past so this week i jacked it up and pulled the wheels off to have a good look. Also the steering wheel straight ahead position kept changing.
So this is what i found.
Gland nuts, tight.
TCA inner bolts, loose.
The six crossmember bolts, loose.
Swaybar to tca nuts, loose.
Swaybar brackets bolts, loose.
The total of all these loose bolts was causing some ordinary handling i must say. Out for a test drive and and the difference is immediately noticeable. Light steering, opposite lock and steering from the rear, just how i like it.
This teaches me that after a few thousand miles from rebuilding, check the torque of all suspension bolts. Some of these bolts were real loose.   Cheers,...ron.

Thanks for sharing Ron. That's a great tip. I guess the last thing you think of doing after a multi year build is going over the car again. I'll schedule a check of torque settings on my Blaze Blue car. Cheers

None of those should cause your steering straight ahead to change.  Check the column to rack bolt.  There is a groove in the flat that should line up with  the bolt to lock it.  I missed it once and the splines were slipping and the wheel straight ahead was changing.  You might need to loosen the steering wheel boss to get it in the right spot.

Also sway bar bolts should have lock tabs, TCA to sway bar should have split pins.

Another one easy to forget is the lock tabs on the bracke calipers.

Good info there gtv6.
What was causing the steering to move off centre slightly came down to a loose bolt holding the tca to the crossmember. Also the steel sleeve in the tca was larger than the bolt in the crossmember allowing the tca to move in and out on the loose bolt. Its all good now but its probably a good idea to change over to metric bolts for a better fit.
Regards,...ron.

Hi all, just wanting to contact Ron regarding the special Capri numbers. Bought a Capri which has chassis with CK17ME and want to check it out. Also would be nice to know the engine numbers as I have a D port motor apparently from a wrecked car 30 years ago so might put some light on whether the car was one of the specials. Meanwhile will get a Ford authorisation letter to confirm. Also on the subject of Ford Authorisation letter does it show any difference or refer to the fact it was uprated in other words would it be apparent you have one from there letter. Finally any idea of the final build plate numbers of the mk1 Capri as my new one has CK17ME340xxP chassis number which seems later than Rons numbers on his list. Thanks Keith

I'm guessing you bought the shell on Gumtree. I checked the numbers and it's not one of the specials. I enquired about the car but the guy never responded.
