Steve, you made it to Ireland then! We were only saying how we hadn't heard from you in a while. When will the Aussie Capri hit Dublin then? You had better keep us posted perhaps by starting another topic just for Irish Capers. All the best from the gang at 'home'!
Oh, and Ron, your Capri just looks sensational!

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Its getting close to the time for taking it down to get the roadworthy but there is so many details to take care of first, coolant leaks, brake fluid leak, waiting on parts etc etc.

I decided to get the tacho rebuilt by Otto instruments, they did a great job and now all is good and working with the electronic ignition. A retrosound radio was selected because of ease of fitment and its all up to date while looking well, retro. It was a cost effective idea compared with trying to get an old radio modified. I made up speaker boxs and sited the speakers in the rear footwell.(can be shifted quickly if someone wants to sit there.) So with all the bits I could finaly fit up the dash and now its time for roadworthy and registration. Not easy when its pouring rain.

That looks amazing! You must be feeling just a little bit proud of your efforts. Hopefully the bugs aren't too difficult to fix.

The ignition needs some tweaking and the lsd diff grumbles and vibes and chirps(is that normal?) and on its maiden trip to the roadworthy guy one of the power feeds to the relays fell off. This had to be the wire to the cooling fan didn't it and the engine overheated. Fixed it on the run but it all made me very nervous, in fact when I arrived at the roadworthy guys shop I was shaking. Also a little apprehensive of what would be said about the car. Anyway said roadworthy guy came out, circled the car making funny noises, took note of the engine number , then wandered off to write out the report, easy as. Next I thought that the rta would cast a critical eye over the capri. Nope, only interested in the engine number. Job done! This has taken five years of spare time from buying the car to registration day and of course there is still lots of refine ments i can make to it and yes I am pretty happy how it turned out. Its also very satisfying to have seen the job thru to a finish, that took some determination. It also feels like I have just completed my classic ford restoring apprenticeship.
