I have just ordered a few Capri steering racks which have been professionally reco-d including correct boots.  I got a bulk buy price.   Still factory (not ford) boxed I will be selling the leftovers at $299 to forum/club members.  If anyone is interested let me know I'll list the leftovers on Ebay at $350, available late nest week

Hey JR, Who did the RECO's on the racks?
I'm about to change racks over- Again, Pain in the A$$ job, V8-Sump in the way- whole x-member out, I have a very good used rack which I will use, the rack in the car currently  was alledged Reco by a Capri Club member- Nothing agianst any one though, Man it's Scary, cars got a "Death" wobble whilst driving, I can only put it down to Rack, everything else on front suspension has been changed-K-Mac strut tops, Nolathane steering coupling- 2nd one-1st one melted/tear due to extractor heat, new lower ball joints, tie rod ends & aligned by Traction tyres Rowville few years back.- I don't drive the car because of this & been putting it off for some time now.

You could try National Power Steering in Doveton/Dandenong.  If yours was done by who I think then it should be spot on he does a good rack.  The usual culprit for the death wobbles is the control arms.
The Inner bushes flog out and because you cant see them you assume they are ok.
Next is the sway bar bush through the arm they need a metal sleeve in Good Condition, not rough and rusty.
Next check that the metal brackets welded onto the rack are not cracked this is common.
Also the bottom of the steering column has a plastic bush to stop the inner shaft wobbling about.
ALso the rack C clamps and sway bar C clamps often distort (sway bar particulary).

Benny I got mine of ebay UK, not sure if it was these guys or not as it was a while ago.  Much cheaper than a local recon.

Day off work, Decided to torture my self, pulled X-member out, Bought New Control arms from Ringwood Auto Spares @ $129.00 pair, Burson wanted $123 each. Swapped back to the other rack, at least the rack ends are tight, the one "Reco" removed was so loose in the ends both sides too much movement-I think that's the problem. New Tie rod ends, Pissed off the Nolathane Sway bar eyelet mounts to control arms, left the rubber type in the arms that I just bought, The sway bar mounts are Nolathane, No cracks @ Steering rack mount to X-member, Nolathane mounts rack to X-member.
Steering shaft should be good, I changed the Uni joint as the last one seized up- due to heat & dirt I think, Next will be new front tyres & wheel balance followed by front wheel/end alignment.
    - I hope this will be the end & make the car SAFE & more enjoyable to drive.

The tie rod end cups are supposed to be held in place with a thin roll pin, perhaps this was missed in the reco process and the caps have come loose .  You can wind in the rack end cups (usually with a Stilson) to take up the slop.  Rule of thumb with tie rods is that you should be able to raise the rod (with the tie rod end fitted) as faras it will go and when released it just stays put (done of course with the tie rod end removed from the steering arm

Well all is back together, Not a "Fun" Job I must say.
Gotta grease up the tie rod ends & Go over the R/H lower ball joint, spinning whilst trying to tighten nut- I gave up another nite I'II sort this.
The rack I removed was very "Sloppy" in the ends on both sides, No way would they hold up with tie rod ends fitted, The rack I just fitted is nice & stiff & will hold .
