The standard dissy is dual diaphragm. One side is used as a fast idle through a thematic vacuum tree on the thermostat housing. Putting on one way checks in the right direction should give you advance and retard.

If the exhaust temp is too high you have too little timing. I would set the engine with 10 deg initial as a starting point

Unfortunetly i dont know specs. i can only assume the dissy is standard! i dont even know the specs of the head/cam so it makes it very difficult! (for me) i timed the engine to TDC and it fires first go everytime.. BUT the idle is near impossible to get right (for me)
i will do some playing around with it on the weekend and report back. i might even set engine to 10deg to see if that makes much of a difference i will admit i havent played with pinto timing or dissy much before!

Decompressed motor will need at least 10deg. Standard dissy is very conservative even with 15 deg on a na motor Standard is a very slow advance curve I think it stops close to 5000rpm. At about 5psi you want around 30deg total.

i set the timing as far advanced as possible before the engine starts to die... exhaust temps were a little bit higher on pyro guage i think i only hit around 7-8 psi reved to about 5500 wasnt that impressed! i have a bit of work to do tuning wise, the fumes the noise... im getting over it lol!

As long as you have a fire extinguisher and a wheel spanner and you don't have a steep driveway i should bring mine over for a look.

Ha Grant yeah im soft i cant speed around anymore! must be getting mature?? have you still got the rs?

Sundowner, i havent sorted the dissy advance/retard properly i dont think! (well i have the retard part sorted pretty well LOL)
its got lots of torque but its laggy (could have a lot to do with the cam and ratio of the diff and the gearbox) but its not that quick, not sure what i was expecting really! but anyway might have to up the boost! have you decided what you are doing with the distributor?

Still got RS mate. Just got it all running a few months back, just to get a wheel alignment done now after putting the strut tops back in.

It is actually 100% complete and working for a change, well apart from the brick. To think i put that in 7-8 years ago......

you can see where i was coming from when i was talking about the efi vs carby thing hey, but don't give up
do you know what comp ratio your running , i'm guessing if they had std chambers in the head (have they been modified?) with a std deck height and the 2mm plate you could be around 8:1 so it may need more boost to get it wokring better ? , but then you may have dramas with ignition timing, I would take both your dissys down to somewhere that can tell you exactly what ignition advance is in there, on the other hand if you ever want to convert to coil packs i should have the bits, but it will cost a bit initially, it could also come down to cam specs with a close LCA, any info on the cam ? Good luck

Hi Joey,
yeah i can understand what you were talking about! i still like being able to play around with it myself rather than sending it off to a dyno! but that said Efi is definetly easier! but in this case would have cost me too much! i have the car idling and driving fairly good, i just cant seem to find full boost without running out of road! the gear ratio of the box and diff could be a factor and the lag! i think i might be running around 6:9 ratio? it feels that way!or in the 7s , only info on cam i could find was the name of the cam (i cant remember it at the moment...) its something like "heatseeker"? i think
Combustion chambers may have been modified i cant remember (the head has had the works done to it 4 grand spent back in 2003)
i would def be interested in a coil pack setup! (you can inbox me details if you like? )
also where should i take the dissys to? have you used anyone in brissy before?

I think the place I went to isn't open anymore(Randall st slacks creek), they did it for free , but any old school Carby shop would do it, they should be able to advise u if it's suitable or not
