Xr6 turbo powered escort conversion
Just asking if the 4.0L (barra turbo motor) will fit comfortably, and if I was planning this conversion, what escort should I buy to start with? I've heard that auto escorts from factory have more space under bonnet/under car? ? ? I want a escort, 1979 - 80 mk2, 2 door. I've seen these motors pull big figures reliably a few times. So I'm keen on one. If any of u guys know about the falcons, what will I need from the falcon, or other, to convert an escort? But, I'd like it to still look the same on the outside as before the conversion. Cheers for any help in advance.

This conversion has been done in Capri's a few times now, but an Escort will need major surgery to swallow the straight 6. Cheers, Phil.

I've seen 5L V8's into these escorts. So I'm hoping the 4L would be easier.

umm i think you'll find the inline 6 is quite a bit longer than a V8... there was a mk1 panel van with a xr6 turbo conversion on ebay a few months ago and it needed MAJOR surgery to make it fit..basically had to re do a whole new firewall

Just happen to have Both those in my yard. The Falcon motor from back of block to front of belts is approx 800mm, my escort from bulkhead to radiator is 670mm. It will take some cutting thats for sure.

Why not go a cossie motor, you'll find 500-600 hp a handfull and the escort chassis and won't have the weight over the rear wheels. Plus the lighter cossie motor will do wonders for car balance vs the heavier 4.0L motor.

You'd want to sit in the back seat to change gears, those things are huge, tight squeeze in a falcon. Don't think you'd ever get it engineered to legally drive it anywhere. By the time you fit one of them into a escort upgrade everything , strengthen shell, diff conversion, brakes etc etc you are going to be up for a small fortune then i'm not sure how it would go anyway drive-ability. If you are after the power buy an xr6 turbo and mod that, no way in hell i'd be driving an escort with one of those things in it.

There was a mk2 escort on gumtree in Adelaide for sale as a project with a barra going into it. I was interested in it so shot the guy a email about it being street legal and he replied that he already checked and it would be approved if it was done correctly. I'd love the power to weight myself of that set up! As for a cossie as a alternative I think everyone would love one but they are a tad on the expensive side

By the time you do the barra properly it will be simular money to the cossie! I have an F6 with 500rwhp as my everyday work ute and yes its a handful if driven hard but in an escort it would be useless!
mk2 2 door, cosworth still waiting to go in!

It has been done before a full drag mk2 4door with a bara in it with massivr turbo...
Will need to chop the firewall out and move it back a **** load Engine will more then likely hang out the bonnet Will make the car massively front heavy and will only be good for drags Wont be able to get it regod anywere
Waste of time/money unless its a dedicated drag car looking to run 7 or 8sec passes
There was a build thread on another forum of the mk2 but cant remember which 1...
