What you have pictured is exactly the same as the aussie cars had as standard. The pad backing shims go between the pad and the caliper piston with the arrow indicating the forward direction of the rotor. The 'M' shaped spring is there to push the pads away from the disc when the brakes are not being applied. this is designed to stop noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) which causes brake squeal. There is only one spring required per caliper and it was fitted to the top pad retaining pin.
I might have a spare caliper with this stuff fitted if you need a photo.
