ive just spoke to the engineer and he said that if we dothe cal 980x3 =9800cc close to3ltr and he would pass it for rego as it fit in the guide lines set out and he would even do a small turbo on it. so iam going to find a nice mark 2 escort 2 door and do an other conversion

At the risk of sounding rude (and upsetting a few Capri owners while I'm at it!), my question is: why do you want to stick one of those big, heavy, poor power producing (per dollar spent) boat anchors into an Escort? If it's just for the sake of having a V6 under the bonnet and being a little bit different, that's one thing. But if you want the thing to go around corners and produce a bit of grunt, I'd steer clear. There are other alternatives if it just has to be a V6 though.

If you just wanna have a v6 in there I have a Buick 3.8L v6 that was installed in my 4 cylinder capri, I removed it to go back to a 4 but still have it and a bunch of hot up parts including a suck through carby turbo kit for it if you are at all interested. It is around 30% lighter than the stock capri 3L

Why not look at a suzuki v6 3ltr all alloy.
UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear. HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall. TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

I agree with whools . They actually can get them (v6) moving obviously havent been in anything other than a 4 pot esky ... Please do your research
The only thing that beats HORSEPOWER is TORQUE. You can sleep in your car but u cant race your house. 1972 V6 DELETE

I'm with Simon on this! I fitted a v6 Essex into a Escort mk1 and used the matching 4 spd box back in the late '90s as a joke. We had it running in an afternoon, the sump was fine, mounts were hybrids, very dodgy but it was quite easy. I wouldn't waste my time doing it again though. I'd consider more modern units, lighter, cheaper, more power !

When you consider a 302 Windsor weighs about the same as a V6 its a no brainer why there are so many V8 conversions in Capris. IMO, the V6 isn't a pretty engine. Power is pretty poor, it's very heavy, and it's hard to get decent power out of. All that weight over the front of an Escort makes it drive terrible. A well set up pinto or push rod will run rings around it around a race track in an Escort, just have a look at some of the Historic results, the V6 Capri's are lapping at about the same times as a 1500 push rod Cortina. That should tell you something. A capri with a V6 is a whole lot better balanced car than an Escort with the same lump over the front of it. Not the sort of conversion I'd take on, Each to their own I guess though. There was alot of articles in English magazines with V6 conversions, I can't seem to find my collection though to post any pictures Cheers Woz

I forgot to mention...if it matters, I had a Sierra XR4x4i Cologne 2.8i with 5spd which was to go in a mk1 I owned in the early '90s, I chose that motor over the essex anchor as its such a better engine, lighter, bigger power gains per dollar over the essex. The conversion never happened due to severe chassis rust in the mk1..

I served my apprenticeship on Essex engines at Ford dealer in UK and although they sound good, and are pretty tough, would not be my 1st choice for an Escort. Plastic timing gears and hex drive oil pump, I am not the biggest fan, (sorry Marty the German V6 isn’t on my favourites list either). A mob called savage, in the UK, fitted the Essex to MK2 Cortina’s and MK1 Escorts back in the 70s and early 80s. just as something different to the XFlow/Pinto/BDA. If you are looking at something different in an Escort, then OK, but it will destroy the Escorts biggest advantage, well balanced handling. Just ask the Capri Cologne team which car they were chasing at Nurburgring for many events. (4 cylinder escorts). This is just an opinion and like backsides, everybody has one.
