Black outs on 2 door

Hi Guys

My car will be painted at the end of the month and i've been looking at photos of other RS2000 2 doors and have noticed that some have their sills and lower rear quarters paint black and others dont.

I'm not getting hung up on been totally original but would like to know how they came from the factory.

Mines a 1980 model if that could make a difference.

Cheers Mark.

    hey mate
just looking at the picture car that was featured in the modern motor test/review in november 79.Its a white 2 door and the lower sill is definately painted black and also a matching black "sill line" that runs along  the rear lower guard sort of carrying on the line from the sills. I also have a black and white pic of either a red or orange 4 door that seems to have the same black sill treatment. I cant guarantee this is how they all came out though, maybe a historian may have a definate answer.

Yes. As shep8 has stated they were blacked out in satin black finish, the back guards past the rear tyre is the tricky bit as the level as it goes around the back of the car stops at the seem about 20mm higher then the beaver panel.

Are you saying that the black stops at the seam and doesnt join to the other side of the car,  So the beaver panel on the rear is body colour? and not painted black at the very bottom.

    Cheers.

The were black all the way around, it just gets a little tricky masking it correctly so that you dont end up with shark fins at the corners when looking from the rear.

Below is my old red RS from the rear. This is how they were supposed to be.

JVC063 is correct and the photos he has supplied are correct.

If strict Ford factory originality is your goal, the blackout is definitely 20mm (approx) stepped up. The black only extends to the guard/beaver panel seam.
The beaver panel should not be painted black along the bottom. Only the body colour.

Attached photos below are Ford factory correct. (sorry the photos are not so good quality. The camera batteries died soon after).

However we all have our own personal interpretations and preferences.

I agree - none were blacked out all the way across from the factory.  Doesn't look the best standard though so I've seen some paint all the way across, or taper the black along the side so that it meets the bottom of the beaver panel instead.
