New shocks required, but what to go with. HELP
Hi guys, is there anyone on here that helped build this car (see attached photos) , its the RS Owners car that was built & finished in 2004, I took the this pic back then on the trailer (now I own it, its a small world thing!!!!)....anyway. I need to know a little more about it, Im new to the modified Escorts thing (I have only ever had standard stuff). I need to know what the front struts are, the shocks are stuffed and need to be replace. The write up says Cortina Mk2 GT struts, but they must be modified......dont look standard to me. Cheers guys

Cant you get measurements? That will help. Especially if you can measure the insert by itself with a picture to go along side.. As far as brands Bilstein, Koni and Gaz seem to be the main ones used. Spax are another option also.

Good to see there is at least one person on here that built this car, I have only had it on the track once so far....more to come of course. I will do a measure and get a pic on here. I appreciate your input. Cheers

Find out what you need and we can go from there. I will ask my guys if they have contacts down there. Can you pull the originals out and get the part numbers??

Hey guys, I have loaded a couple of new pics of the struts, the one where you can see the strut tower and the shocker coming out of it is the issue, it doesn't have a strut insert, I've never seen anything like it. The strut tower opening is approx 48mm in diameter, I doent know if that standard or not. I might have a solution though, I have found some inserts I had forgotten about, in my Mk1 van, I pulled them out tonight and they do fit. It could be a patch till I can afford to put some fully adjustable stuff, when I have some extra funds. If you do have a contact that would be great. Thanks again.

Looks about right to me, all I need now is shock inserts, the issue for me now is the ones I have are really big, as in the shaft is, I have a set of standard size ones, they are approx 12mm and the ones I have are approx 20mm. So thats why I have adde the below photo. I need to know where I can get strut inserts with the shaft being so big. Its the part where the top mount goes. Anyone got ideas? Thanks guys

Looks like Billies. Get the numbers off them and contact QUADRANT Suspensions in Berwick. They will be able to rebuild them. They did mine about 5 years ago

It is now cheaper to get new ones unless yours are no longer avail. I did a set on an old school race car that Perkins set up. It was more economical to buy new ones with similiar valving. Especially if the shaft is bent or pitted, also they don't warrant the rebuilds.
