Australian Mk1 Escort badges vs English Mk1 Mexico badges - a question of size

I have a 1300XL which has quite a few modifications and is now similar to a Mk1 Mexico.  To complete the transformation, I want to add Mexico badges and decals.  I bought a set of Mexico badges on ebay from a seller in England, but they are a very different size to the standard badges on the car.  The Mexico badges are quite a bit bigger and the pins don't line up with the same holes that are in the mudguards.  I am sure with a needle file, I can make the Mexico badges work, but I was wondering...  Did English cars have larger badges than the Aussie Escorts? or is this a case of AVO cars having bigger badges and the run of the mill English models also had small badges like my 1300 XL badges? or perhaps, these Mexico badges are not original (despite having a Ford logo on the back) and they are bigger than they should be?  I don't know and I am hoping you guys will know.

I have embedded a photo below showing the two badge sizes and the differences in the pin spacing (the smaller Aussie badges having wider pin spacing) through the holes in the cardboard.

Update:  While I don't have an definitive answer, looking at as many period photos as I can find among all my Escort books it looks like the AVO cars (the ones with the type 49 shell - TwinCam, RS1600, Mexico, RS2000) seemed to have badges that 'look' more prominent than the badges on the run of the mill cars (1100, 1300, 1300XL, 1300GT).  I'll be in England next week, and hope to get to the Ace Cafe and a few other places to see some classic Fords, so I will make some measurements if I get the opportunity....

Still, if anyone does know the answer, I would appreciate any comments, knowledge to share regardless...

The Mexico badges you bought are replicas and have to be 10% different to the factory makers JFray ltd badge which fits as it should. The pins are almost 5mm closer too.
They are bigger than the bog std 1300xl units .
If you can find a genuine Capri 1600 or 3000GT wing badge and place it next to your ' copy' you will see the difference....i hope this clears the mater

Thanks Marty, I am still a bit confused though.  I know they are not genuine, bu I am confused by your comment that the repro badges have to be 10% larger. Is that for legal reasons, or is it a comment of the extent of the increase in size between the original and repro badges?

Given they are repros, I am wondering why the manufacturers would change the size or the pin spacing if their market is replacing badges on original Mexicos....

    Thanks, Andrew

Hi, from what I can work out is when they (the repro casting place) just copied the std Mex/RS badge, when castings are done they shrink a few % . I put a repro against a genuine badge and there is 3x mm difference, not too sure why the pins are further inwards but best to file your holes to match
