xflow sumps??

hello,
Here's a pic of my 1976 1600 sump. The other sump I have (1975 ghia ) is missing the circled part. I plan to use the 76 sump because the 1975 one has a stripped thread for drain bolt. What's the purpose of this part, which would be better to use?

    Baffles are there to prevent oil surge. So when cornering the oil doesnt drain away from the pump pickup and lose oil pressure.
